Re: Need help with Gibson electric guitar question

Well, I spent the entire afternoon playing various guitars in a few different shops.  A lot of Gibsons.  And I found that my stubby **** hands just don't fit the Gibson neck very well.  I had to do a lot of wrist breaking and forearm thrusting to get any movement.

So I changed direction and checked out a few Les Paul Epiphones and found a SE PRS Paul Allender.  Thanks to BigJeff for the guidance.  Okay, so I fell in  love with the bats on the fretboard.  HA! But I was able to move up and down the neck without struggling.  Smooth.

Anyone have an opinion on it for the long haul?  Is it just a gimmick instrument or will it continue to please?

Re: Need help with Gibson electric guitar question

The PRS "Paul Allender" is a standard PRS Custom SE 24 with a purple finish and the "Bat" fret markers, personally I think that the bats are too big but that's only my opinion, the guitars themelves play great. Made in Korea under licence to PRS with PRS designed hardware and original PRS pickups, a wide neck makes for easier access to large or "new to guitar" fingers and its very easy to play. Good tones from bluesy fat sound to all out shreddin overdrive, the pick ups are very responsive,
I owned a Custom SE24 for about 3 years, loved it and got the best part of all of my money back when I sold it 3 months ago.

I replaced mine with a "Vintage" Les Paul Goldtop, (it's their version of the JBLP called the MRJBMV100 icon series), great guitar for the money only cost £250.00 here in the UK. Don't know if they are readily available in the USA but all of their Les Paul Models play and feel really very nice for the money, might be worth checking one out.

For some pictures of my MRJBMV100 and some sound of a PRS SE 24 playing some joe covers go to:-

Will give a bit of an idea of what a PRS "Paul Allender" sounds like through a Mrshall DSL401 combo.

Whatever you get, enjoy it!!! lol  lol  lol

Have Fun and laugh like it's your first time! You never know you might get to like it! big_smile

Re: Need help with Gibson electric guitar question

Stewart, thanks for the info.  The guys at the guitar shop didn't know all that.  Or at least they weren't telling me.  HA!
As for the bats...I'm a huge horror fan (actually a semi-pro horror novelist/editor), so they were one of the things that drew me to that particular guitar.  I honestly thought it was going to sound like **##, like the B.C. Rich gimmicky stuff, but it actually sounded great.  Not sure if it was the pickups or the construction (or a little of both), but it really had a great tone.
