Topic: Blues Jams-an oxymoron?
I suppose I've become philosophical about so many things, but why call 'em that? Usually players say "sounds good" and I jsut say "Thanks." and I hand over the instrument cable. It's all very civil.
Last Thursday, the next bass player came up and said "sounding good, brah..." and I couldn't help it. I spewed. and he looked at me and grinned real big. OK he said, "It was a ****ing train wreck...but that wasn't your fault."
Right I said. When I sat down to put my axe away, the drummer that was on before me came over and apologized for not staying up there. He's a jazz guy, which I can do.
As I'm leaving, a singer I know says to me "Call me Doc. I got something up my sleeve." Okay then. "We're not gonna play "House of the Rising Sun," are we?"
He said No sir! and laughed out loud. I'm wondering what I'm in for...
Any of you guys or gals go to jams or open mic nights? Sometimes it is magic, but rarely so, anymore.
