Re: Football Worldcup 2010

A couple of non biased opinions:

The sport should do away with "off sides" - what b.s.

Maybe to spice the game up allow contact in the box.

A red card in the second overtime of a championship game?! - Really? Come on ref get your head in the game, you shouldn't be carding anyone at this time, let the players play, the best team is gonna win-usually.

Can the refs yellow card a player for bad acting, diving?

All in all I was suprised to find myself watching some of these matches from start to finish and even enjoying it.

Congratulations to Spain on a well deserved victory.

I believe the off side rule has something to do with the fact that there must be a Pineapple between the goal Keeper and the last player in defence at the point when the ball is passed forward, or at least that's my interpretation of the rule, play on!!! lol  lol

Have Fun and laugh like it's your first time! You never know you might get to like it! big_smile

If we speak about revenge, we need some cameras or at least some micros in the box.
But then it's kickboxing?

Something like Australian Rules Football.  lol If you are in posession of the ball, it is open season... That would open up play quite a bit.  yikes

So true Ian, so we stop the offsides rule at the u19 level.  lol Make them wear sneakers so no cleat damage from tackles. Clothesline tackles banned. Just a few changes.  roll

Sneakers (Trainers) Wouldn't make any difference! Just more metatarsal injuries!
What the game needs is goal-line technology !

HAHAHA!! Now I think the FIFA should definitely hire the whole Forrester Clan for first class advice on how to improve the beautiful game we call soccer. But yeah, no offsides and a little more "contact" WOULD probably make the game more interesting.  big_smile

Thanks to the Forrester family for watching all these games with me, supporting the right team ("Schlaaaand!") and pulling me out of my "only 3rd AGAIN - the Spanish AGAIN"-trauma. Got my Rangers T-Shirt ready for some Hockey action next time.  wink

But all in all, good Worldcup - and a very interesting experience to listen to American TV moderators trying their best to act like they know the slightest thing about soccer ......

Have to disagree, Eva dear. I suppose only Germans or Spaniards (and a few deluded Dutch) might consider this a 'good' WC from their own perspective. Every 'lover of the game' I have talked to or correspond with (ok, on the whole these are older men), agrees with me that this was the most disappointing WC in memory as far as quality of play, quality of games, or quality of goals was concerned. On top of that we had that damn useless ball, those horrific noise trumpets and more major refereeing mistakes than ever.

From my own perspective as a Holland supporter and lover of 'Dutch' football, I was amazed (and pleased, of course) that they got to the final. I was then horribly disillusioned by their disgraceful exhibition in the final, which probably besmirched the good name of our game more than it deserves to be.

Barcelona (Spain) deservedly won with some wonderful passing play, and with the fewest goals ever scored by a WC winner. Nope, sorry, I thought it was a **** WC.

The US are now joint #13 with Serbia on the FIFA list; biggest jumpers are Uruguay, from #16 to #6.

To those of you are novices at this game, trust me, the offside rule is necessary. It just needs to be applied more sensibly and justly. For that, and for goal line incidents, we must move to implementing electronic aids asap. Blatter out!

  Dear George,
Stiff upper lip old boy. To bad for me that I only saw the Netherlands play in the final. I would have liked to have seen another of thier matches to have a feel for thier game before the final.  I did, however; watch Spain spank a very lackluster German team (sorry Eva I call them as I see them). As I watched that match I couldn't help but think the Germans needed a spark and yes a red card straight up foul just might have provided that. I can't help but wonder if in fact your footballers might have felt the same way, there are far worse things in this world than a foot to the chest and not for nothing The Spaniards were enhancing a plenty on the others.
I know this won't make you feel better but they should crown that spanish goalie the King of Spain for that kick save he made against your guy.  Come to think of it the play in goal on both sides was spectacular.

A new respect for the game,
Jack
