Have to disagree, Eva dear. I suppose only Germans or Spaniards (and a few deluded Dutch) might consider this a 'good' WC from their own perspective. Every 'lover of the game' I have talked to or correspond with (ok, on the whole these are older men), agrees with me that this was the most disappointing WC in memory as far as quality of play, quality of games, or quality of goals was concerned. On top of that we had that damn useless ball, those horrific noise trumpets and more major refereeing mistakes than ever.
From my own perspective as a Holland supporter and lover of 'Dutch' football, I was amazed (and pleased, of course) that they got to the final. I was then horribly disillusioned by their disgraceful exhibition in the final, which probably besmirched the good name of our game more than it deserves to be.
Barcelona (Spain) deservedly won with some wonderful passing play, and with the fewest goals ever scored by a WC winner. Nope, sorry, I thought it was a **** WC.
The US are now joint #13 with Serbia on the FIFA list; biggest jumpers are Uruguay, from #16 to #6.
To those of you are novices at this game, trust me, the offside rule is necessary. It just needs to be applied more sensibly and justly. For that, and for goal line incidents, we must move to implementing electronic aids asap. Blatter out!
