Re: Clapton Crossroads

Dear NPB, it's just not that simple. Music reflects so much of what is happening in the world at any given time. There were elements of the music in the 80's that reminded me of the 60's! Especially androgeny!  Damn Twiggy, right when I got my big boobs! It's the clothes (shoulder pads like a line backer) huge platforms, mass amounts of polyester, and big hair that I hope don't recycle again in my lifetime! I've got to add that cocaine did a lot of ruin during that decade.   Remember to look for the gems, as the before mentioned SRV, because they're there.

Re: Clapton Crossroads

Hey-NPB-we're dead giveaways on our age, just on commenting on Stevie Winwood. I was so ticked off at a dj, David Dye of the World Cafe, to be exact.  One day he referred to Stevie as disco Steve for a couple of things he did in the 80's. Based on other comments this dj has made, he finds the disco age offensive, whereby I didn't!  It had its moments and brought tons of people out to clubs, socializing and dancing...When you look at Winwood's whole body of work, personally, I just thought it was uncalled for.  At the same time, you are right, many artists moved to a different beat in the 80's! I have to admit I was really surprised at something Stevie did most recentlly.  He appears on Christine Aguliera's new CD and does a spin on "Glad" from a very classic Traffic album, John Barleycorn. My daughter has the CD, and as good as Christine's voice is, I'm not too crazy about her and almost fainted when I heard Stevie on there!!  My sons were abusing him, calling Steve a sellout...blah, blah, blah....it was a painful defense on my part, but musicians have to keep earning a living, their families get accustomed to a certain life style...weak defense, I know.  big_smile And, don't pick on George...he went through some stages in his music career...

I had no idea (at the time) Steve Winwood of the 80's was the Blind Faith Steve Winwood.

One of my favorite memories from the 80's was a local Chicago DJ (Steve Dahl) had "Disco Demolition night" at the old Comiskey Park, between games of a Sox doubleheader. In short, he blew up a pile of disco records out on the field (to chants of "disco sucks"), his fans rushed onto the field, and between the fans and the explosives the field was damaged and the Sox forfeited the second game as a result.
There was a pretty strong anti-disco feeling at that time, mostly from fans of Rock.

Re: Clapton Crossroads

I see Joe still hasn't filled in July 28th on his tour schedule. Adding Joe would round out the show really nice as far as I'm concerned! I was able to get two tickets to Crossroads 2 this morning, so I continue to hope!

Re: Clapton Crossroads

Can anyone recommend a good cheap hotel in chicago. Got my tickets today and want to book hotel soon

Re: Clapton Crossroads

Sorry I don't know the name, but I think it's the Marriot. The key is to book near the airport, as the venue isn't downtown. We're not paying more than 100$ a night. My friend did the booking and used an online site like travelosity. Hope this vague info. is helpful..See you there!! Make sure you come in Friday. Sonny and Walter (probably others too) are playing local venues!!...........Cathy

Re: Clapton Crossroads

Re: Clapton Crossroads

I tried today to get tickets, apparently they are already sold out.  Found some on ebay and stuff for 225 and up, which is just a bit past what I could possibly pay for one concert.  Oh well, Im sure theyll be another DVD.

Re: Clapton Crossroads

Went to HOB.com then put in chicago and back porch. Shows on sale only go thru 6/28 as of now. I did notice they have a special that gives priority seating if you eat there. Maybe we all meet for dinner? Shows start at 10pm. I will have to go see Sonny later....Cathy

We're down on the field. May be a long day standing, but I'm going to be so psyched I don't think it will be a problem. How about you, what section?
BTW, I booked Friday and Saturday night at the Hampton Inn in Countryside, which is about 5 miles from Toyota Park. We're driving so we may come earlier or stay longer, don't know at this point. Walter at HOB on Friday is definitely a possibility.

If you want to sit, the dinner package is the only way...otherwise you'll be standing. Personally, I'd get a spot near the front of the stage and stand!
I probably won't be at HOB on Friday, but my daughter and I will be at Crossroads on Saturday. We actually wanted main level standing, but wound up with seats...24th row, Section 120 (I think)

WOW
Well that would explain it.  haha oh well...

Re: Clapton Crossroads

Was able to print a seating chart at Toyota Park site. We got tickets by ordering 1 at a time. The 2 I got are seats and in the back. I am grateful for any ticket! Plus, I'll have great acoustics!

How close are the tables to the stage?

Re: Clapton Crossroads

general admission on the field should mean you can stand anywhere you want, i know that they are giving sec, row & seat for the field but this lets them know how many tickets they have sold for general admission. You should be able to stand where you want at least that's how it works in the DC area.

Re: Clapton Crossroads

Taurus, if you read the blurb at hob it appears to me that you are let into the concert area first as you must show your ticket and your dinner receipt..so I think it's 2 different areas. But then again, I could be confused,,,iIm a tautur49 afterall!!!Cathy
