I think i would agree with Curby, on 69. I would like to stretch that from 69 - 74  Musically rich years.

Got to agree on '69 over all. Two stand out years in my musical life were '64/Meet The Beatles, the album that changed everything for many of us. The other, '73/Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd, been a die-hard fan ever since. Although '69 was a banner year it was the gateway to the '70's, IMO the best decade of all time followed by the "fluffy" '80's. Flock of Seagulls????? The decade of horrors and MTV delivered it to us around the clock.

I don´t know if 1969 was The year, but a lot of good albums indeed. I´d like to add to Curby´s list:

The '80's had there moments, but I was in my 30's and started to realize I wasn't a kid any longer as I noticed that current music trends appealed to people a little younger than me. I did a lot of growing up in the '80's as well getting married and becoming a parent which changed me immensely. Watching VH1 Classic gives me a good chuckle lookin' back at the clothes, the hair styles, and a lot of the music. If you remember the '70's you probably weren't there,LOL!

yeah I don't remember too much of the 70s. I was there in full regalia, torching brain cells as fast as possible. I hear what Joe is saying, but for where I was living it was just 2 years too early. 1969 changed everything in my music world, mostly Zep and Abbey Road, and Yes. But also Jethro Tull 'Stand Up', I was and still am a huge IA/Martin Barre(chord) fan. 1980 was really a pretty good year, leading the way was 'Back in Black'. But there were many other good releases that year including Billy Joel's 'Glass Houses' that had like 4 top forty hits. There is some music of the 80s that will make you smile, Curby, but most of them made me LOL. That is when I turned to jazz because it was pretty big in Houston at that time. I'll stick to '69 - '78 just so I can include Feat's 'Waiting For Columbus' and the mid Genesis albums like 'Trick of the Tail' + 'And Then There Were 3'.

For me? Late 70's early 80's. Heck, I was 16 in 1980.

It was ALL about AC/DC, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Scorpions, Judas Preist, Sabbath, Dio, Ted Nugent, Led Zep, Bad Co., Y&T, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Iron Madien....... you get the picture.

1978 - without a doubt because it was the year that really kicked things into gear for my music appreciation, - all of these albums or singles I bought and still have, and played over and over again.

AC/DC - Powerage, still their best and will never be beaten.
The Police - Outlandos D’Amour,  I know not very rock, but as a kid learning to play drums the rhythms blew me away.
Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London - amazing to discover the song, I still have the 45 single
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous, no words needed with this one.
Cheap Trick - I want you to want me (live at Budokan), - such fun in a pop song!
The Who - Who Are You - Keith died just after release
Public Image Ltd - Public Image - after the demise of the Sex Pistols it was great to see John return
AC/DC If you want blood - awful recording but having just seen them play live for the first time this helped recreate my experience
The Stranglers - Walk on By EP - keyboards going off for a walk on their own by Dave Greenfield after two amazing releases in 1977, Ratus Norvegicus and No More Heroes
