Topic: Favorite Year in Music
The mention recently of Terry Kath, guitarist of the band Chicago, opened a Pandora's Box of memories of my early musical life. Chicago Transit Authority got a lot of play on my stereo in 1969, but then I started thinking about all the other music and events of that year and came to the conclusion that '69 was THE year.
1969 produced the monumental Woodstock Music Festival and the infamous Stones concert at Altamont, Ca. Speaking of the Stones, besides releasing their best album (imho), Let It Bleed, they also lost founder Brian Jones.
A few debuted albums of that year:
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin. Led Zep II would also be released later that year.
The Allman Brothers Band - The Allman Brothers Band
From Genesis to Revelations - Genesis
Yer' Album - James Gang
The Doobie Brothers - The Doobie Brothers
Yes - Yes
Chicago Transit Authority - Chicago
Bands formed in 1969: Black Sabbath, Mott the Hoople, King Crimson, ZZ Top
Notable other releases:
Tommy - The Who
Then Play On - Fleetwood Mac (my fave Mac album)
Santana - Santana
Nashville Skyline - Bob Dylan
Abbey Road - Beatles (my fave Fab Four album)
Bayou Country, Green River, Willy and the Poor Boys - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Blind Faith - Blind Faith
Crosby, Stills & Nash - Crosby, Stills & Nash
Stand - Sly & the Family Stone
Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5 - The Jackson 5
Goodbye - Cream.......to name a few.
A couple of lasts - last public performance of the Beatles on the roof of the Apple building (1/30/69) and the last charted number 1 by Elvis Presley ("Suspicious Minds").
