I agree it is a difficult race to enjoy on TV where there is little chance of a pass. I once was lucky enough to be working in Genoa, just a bit down the road during the race week and ran up for race day. I walked the course where so many legends have run, got a spot down by the waterfront where all the yachts tie up just after the tunnel exit at the chicane.
There is no more glorious noise on this earth than the sound of F1 cars at full song coming out of that tunnel! It echoes off all the buildings and is ecstasy to a motorhead. My ears rang for a day afterward, just like a Metal concert. I'll tell you some tales sometime about sitting in Schumacher's 2001 Ferrari and Senna's 1986 Elf Lotus. Oh, and the Mazda 787B I got a ride in for a bit. I love me some race car action!

) attended the Monaco Historic race 4 years ago as the engineer for the restored 1936 Alfa 12cv. He worked on the car, which arrived in boxes at his shop, for 2 years doing the $500K restoration. It was about 80% complete and they had to research and manufacture the missing bits . It is the only one that exists. Here is a link with pictures of the car on the circuit in Monaco and at Goodwood. This car was campaigned by Sig.Ferrari, before he began making his own cars. It was an ill handling car and the restored car suffered from fuel starvation at full revs. The restoration is mentioned in this article.
