There is a strange phenomonon that occurs with some mixes regarding the bass. There is sometimes a pocket that the bass just escapes. It works against me as well as for me.
Did a show two years ago outdoors and the sound man was right in a "no bass bubble." Thirty feet further away from the stage, tents were falling over, glasses were vibrating off tables tops and pacemakers were imploding from the boom. The mix on stage was accurate through monitors & backline, though.
When I told the mixmaster to take a walk with me he invited me to do something impossible. Sputter and curse at the funky dr. It sounded fine where he sat. I could pucker up and address his posterior. He made it clear.
When the stage turd set the baffles in front of my amp, I waited till time to go on and kicked them over and stood on them for an hour. The sound man scrambled to redial his board in a hurry.
Jim is right. where you sit could change the mix. Then again some folks mix with nothing but bass, but I don't know that they would be at a JOE! show.
