Topic: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

Fantastic show tonight!   Took three people with us who had never heard of Jo and all three are now stunned and amazed.

We've seen Joe at the Fraze in Kettering and in Nashville.  This was just as good if not better!

Thanks for a teriffic show, Joe!

As with any of his shows - just remarkable. Went with two friends which was their 5th show each and my 62nd.

That was a great venue.

I don't post much. I started following Joe shortly after Bloodline. I remeber the Roscoe days.

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

Joe Twittered that the crowd pushed him along and he said " I wish I would have recorded this show"...This just verified what I already knew...We witnessed a hell of a show last night...Joe was having a ball and the crowd was louder and more enthusiastic than any I can remember...And this was my 18th show...Thanks Joe and Band...

The Other Joe B.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...and, I'm feelin good

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

The Dayton show was fantastic.  I brought along a friend who had never heard of Joe until I started spreading the word around.  He said that this show changed his life and that Rock and Roll/Blues has new life.  Dayton is an old rock and roll town that knows how to rock.  My son got to meet Joe prior to the show.  He's only 11 and Joe has a fan forever.

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

Just piling on to what others have already noted: this was an outstanding performance in a very unique venue.

Sunday nights you're more likely to catch me watching re-runs of 'Axe Men', but with the opportunity staring me in the face to see the real deal i just couldn't resist.  Drove down from the Motor City to catch my fifth show.  Somewhat hesitatingly brought my g/f with me - not exactly a Joe B. fan (Jimmy Buffet is more her speed), but she remained into the act throughout.  On the way back to the hotel even admitted that it was the best show she'd ever seen.  Coming from a Parrothead i would take that as high praise indeed.

The set was virtually unchanged from the previous few shows, so i won't bother re-posting.

Virtually a sold-out show - only a handful of uppermost balcony seats remained.  I don't believe there's a bad seat in the house, and from our vantage point in the fourth row balcony we were virtually on top of the stage.  For such a compact venue, i would have expected a blow-out, but the mix was quite appropriate - high octane, but clean and just enough room to hear oneself singing along at all the best parts without disturbing your neighbor.

I don't really know quite what to say without gushing...loved what he did with the bridge on 'Last Kiss', which rocked the house from start to finish.  Ditto for the bridge work in 'Happier Times', which in the studio is haunting enough, but live it went to another level for me.  Although 'Sloe Gin' has not been among my favorite (studio) tracks, his live interpretation won a new convert for this tune.

And as for 'Woke up Dreaming'...quite possibly the single best solo performance (for me) of all time.  Is there anything he cannot do?  What amazes me about Joe is how he can take a work, slice it, dice it, and then re-combine it ways heretofore unimaginable.  He must have covered at least 12 different musical styles in this number - which no one seemed to want him to find an end for.  One minute you were sure he was about to bust a string, and then the next thing you know he's feathering the softest tones of sweet delight.  Whether his own compositions or the work of others, he has graduated from being merely an outstanding guitar player (which he's always been) to that of an outstanding performer.  Thoroughly polished, professional, approaching maestro status.  There really is no need for him to share the stage with others, if he so chooses.

I'm at the point now where i almost don't care if he ever releases another studio work - just so long as he continues to tour and put on shows as good as the one i just witnessed in Dayton OH.  It was THAT good.

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

4 thumbs up from us!  It's amazing to have such high expectations going into the show only to have them exceeded yet again.  You earned yourself a day off Joe and band.

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

I couldn't have had a more perfect evening. My daughter and her friend got to get some pictures and chat with Bogie&Carmine before the show, they both got the drum sticks from Bogie and a pick from Joe after "Just Got Paid" as well as autographs from Joe after the show!

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

Hey all you joehio fans. My wife and I were there, too. That's my first time seeing Joe and he is absolutely awesome! He is an unbelievable guitar player. When he played Woke Up Dreamin' you couldn't even see his fingers move. I will definitely go see him when he's in the area again. I'm not too sharp on equipment but what do you call that feedback machine he did with his hand? I've never seen that before.

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

I've seen Joe Several times in the Dayton OH area.  This was by far the best show I've seen.  The sound was incredible.

We sat front Row and had a great experience.  Joe seemed to comfortable and absorbed by his music, the passion was so evident in the performance.

A thoroughly enjoyed event.

The Dayton show was beyond kick ****.  Joe was working what's called a Theremin.  Check out Jimmy Page using one.

Re: Victoria Theater, Dayton Ohio!

Two studios albums done....relatively recently and back to back....Time now for LIVE DVD and  a companion CD.....all reocrded at small venues, & videoed by the fans with their HD video cameras......submit your best quality video...with no shakes & good focus, etc.
Youtubes are great, but not always........ I really like the small venue atmosphere, and the intimacy it creates. Joe didnt really  need a mic to talk to us at the Victoria.
He can call the DVD & CD... "Live from Particular Places"......LOL

Just read the forum and you will see loyalty based out of good musicianship, AND an artist who has stayed connected to his fans.....that is rare nowadays, and I cant recall in history any artist who stayed intimate with his/her fans.??? It has always been wanting and driving to make it to the top......leaving loyal & real people in your wake.
I dont know what Joe's long term plans are....if it will be stadiums or what ever,.... but a selfish note here from me ......is that like the Beatles leaving the Cavern Club for the big time, I feel like the fans in Liverpool who said they, the Beatles,  belong to us. I dont want to neccesarily have to drive up to Detroit's Cobo Hall and sit in row 55, instead of row 5 like I did in Dayton....if Joe goes that way, congrats, but I'm sure he will stay connected.
Sorry so long, but just feel that these little venue shows are real gems to hold on to.
Thanks >> DAN
