Re: Bad rock bands !!!
I can't remember the last time I bought a "new" album from a rock band. Do they still exist? Even Tom Petty, who is one of the few old-school rock bands, says his new album is more "blues"-will be interesting to hear when it comes out. It seems so many of the lines are blurred these days about genres. I was never one to buy something just because it was supposed to be a particular type of music. I've learned about more good music from this place than I ever learned from radio or tv. I hate giving music labels as to type - if it's good I'll listen/buy it. I stopped listening to my area's "rock" stations because I disliked so much of what I was hearing, couldn't even tell you the names of the bands they were playing the stuff was so bad. Now it's usually "classic" rock or the ipod in the car. Tried Sirius when my car was new and it was free - couldn't get into it - seemed like the same stuff over and over, just on a longer loop. ChrisM - I like what you said about country music sounding like 70s soft rock - most of the best country stuff came from way back (my husband loves country music
so I get to hear it a lot, and the new stuff isn't "country", although I do like some of it). I am getting old - I miss the 60's/70's stuff. Nothing stays the same, but change is not always a good thing. Sorry for the ramble, and if this is off topic I apologize, but I guess this sort of hit a nerve with me.

Sandy,
Rock is not dead, you just have to investigate. Same thing with "Country". I agree that the stuff coming out of Nashville these days is nothing more than what they used to call soft rock with a steel guitar thrown in for legitimacy. No, the real deal is coming out of Texas and Oklahoma and they call it Red Dirt Country. Listen to Stoney LaRue and Jason Boland for examples. Boland just this week released a new live album and covered "Tulsa Time" fabulously.
Reverand Paul recently mentioned a new rock band called Jonathan Tyler that's quite good.
Back to country, here's some recent stuff that I like....

Found this extra Jason Boland song, "Comal County Blue" with just JB and a violinist. In the living room country that gives me chills.
