Re: Tiger & The Masters

Could be Bill. He had a good tournament. The last round showed some glimpses of his brilliant play, but inconsistently. He was playing badly, as he stated. Bad for him would be the game of most golfer's lives. I just didn't see the fire when he had a chance to go for it. He stumbled out of the gate and never seemed to get his game on. His attitude seemed disgruntled to me.

Say what you will about Tiger and his recent personal issues, but I don't believe he wilted under pressure. The guy had not played competitive golf for at least 5 months and, as I understand, has had very limited practice time. What he did and the score he shot is amazing in that light.

I agree with you Bill. When you compete at that level after taking off for 5 months, it was amazing that he did finish fourth. Obviously, there was some rust on the putter, especially when he 3-putted from 6 feet on 14. That in itself, spelled the end of his run for the Championship. However, let's not take anything away from Lefty. The Masters is usually won and lost on the back nine of the final round and Phil Mickelson proved to be the best in the clutch yesterday. The "nice guy" of the tour finished first this time.  wink

Re: Tiger & The Masters

That 3 putt from three feet was a killer for TW.  That quote from Phil about his second shot on 13 will be etched on his tombstone because that epitomizes the way he plays the game.  He is a modern day Arnold Palmer.

Never meant to minimize what Phil did. He was amazing when he needed to be. That shot on 13 will long be remembered, but I believe he won the tournament when he went eagle, eagle, birdie on Saturday! The shot on 13 pales when compared to that stretch!

Congrats to Phil.  I totally forgot that both of Phil's favorite ladies are battling breast cancer, I wish them well.  I'd like to see Phil bump Tiger from the #1 world spot of best golfer.

No doubt, Tiger has been good for the game of golf and more recently, Tiger has been great for the comedy circuit.  Someone sent me this link.   big_smile

Re: Tiger & The Masters

haha Curby.  Yeah, I'm a Mean Girl.  I don't know if you ever heard of that movie, which was written by Tina Fey based on her high school, which also happens to have been my high school years earlier...

I couldn't watch the last day of the Masters, my brainiac son was being inducted into an honor society (the 1st of 3) at his college and I was at a very proper banquet while the Flyers were in a do or die game and Phil had taken the lead.  The other mom, who I only just met, at the table had it bad for Phil, we both agree he has trimmed down & looking fine and we love the way his hair curls out of the back of his baseball hat.   wink  Anyway, I can't even believe I condoned this, but child #2 had his iphone with him and he's updating us on all sporting events. So, in between some of the speeches and the clapping, we concluded...the best penance for Tiger is to spend the rest of his life chasing balls in hope of winning a golf tourney, but never achieving it.  I think that would keep him humble,  which indirectly would  be very therapeutic.  lol  Now you can call me mean.  roll

Re: Tiger & The Masters

I got luckier watching the final round than you, Angela.  I made the mistake of agreeing to go to my wife's cousin's house in the country to hunt for morels.  I was going to cut out early, but forgot they have a nice plasma TV.  To make a long story short, the beer was cold, the applewood smoked ribs were over-cooked, but delicious, and my favorite golfer won.  I believe I had to wipe a tear off my cheek after his long embrace with his wife.  I have Masters pin flags from '04 and '06 signed and framed by Lefty in my TV room and today my 2010 flag arrived.  Life is still good.

Hi Rick.  We just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary; LIFE IS GOOD!!!  Besides my husband knows better, I'm Lorena Bobbitt in disguise.   yikes   big_smile   yikes   lol

On a serious note, very good coverage on the Masters in the current Sports Illustrated. (April 19th) However, the last page goes back to the humor of it all with some quotes from one of Tiger's porn stars...she says at least she is honest about faking it. It is very interesting how the ending with Phil and his wife had such an emotional impact and in a way, put additional salt on Tiger's wounds.  Life works in mysterious ways...

On Tuesday I was having a conversation with a friend in my car about the Masters and the strange coincidence of both ladies having breast cancer and they are not even biologically related.  My friend's prediction...drinking water from plastic bottles will be deemed hazardous in the future... I got to my destination 10 minutes later and my phone rings and its a friend of mine asking me to pray for her, she was just diagnosed with breast cancer.  Her prognosis seems very good, she gets yearly mammograms and the lump is small...but it was so strange that we were just talking about the rise in breast cancer.

Re: Tiger & The Masters

Congrats on the 25 Angela. We're soon to pass 38. Lots of Mickelson fans here in San Diego, this being his home town. He does a lot of charity work here. I'll pick up the SI and check it out. Breast cancer does seem to be on the rise and exposure to modern chemicals probably has a bearing on it. Treatment has improved much and the survival rate has gotten much better. Best to your friend.

Re: Tiger & The Masters

Hey Rick, speaking of Phil's SD roots, do you recall who he played with on his high school team down there?

No. I know he went to USD High School, a private Catholic institution, then on to U.A. on a golf scholarship.

Both breast and prostate cancers have high cure rates with early deetection and treatment.  Younger patients though, like Amy, are at a higher risk due to higher hormone levels.
