So true, however the Stratocaster can get that big vocal tone as well. It just takes SO MUCH WORK! I've recently revisited a lot of Eric Johnson's stuff and he makes a Strat sound fatter than most people's Gibson guitars. I almost completely gave up on the Stratocaster until I started listening to EJ again. His "100lb Violin" tone off the "Live from Anahiem" DVD is truely inspiring to me and don't get me started on his Hendrix-y/fuzz sound. Dare I say he does Hendrix better than Hendrix???
Back to Joe though...check out the youtube vid of Joe playing "Django" on a custom shop sunburst Strat...sounds nearly identical to his LP versions. A decent amount of "You and Me" was Fenders/Gigliottis if I'm not mistaken. I don't think Joe can make a guitar sound icepicky!
