It's so hard to evaluate.
1. Speakers take a long time to break in. How many hours are on the speaker? And did it take 'break-in' time for it to improve the sound?
I have an Eminence Governor speaker... which is their "answer" to the V30. It's not as ice-picky as the V30, but it's also not broken in. I like it... but my jaw isn't on the floor.
- Should a speaker drop your jaw, or just make your head nod in approval?
- Do you expect it to impress you more once it's broken in?
-Is it unfair to compare your new unbroken in speaker with your old and very broken in speaker?
2. Buzzwords. Warm, tight, fat, all these terms are so subjective... they all start to sound the same. I'd much rather hear "I belted out van halen's Aint talking bout love" and it nailed it... or the best tone I got out of this was much like "the ballad of john henry" and if you're looking for a "Hotel California" tone, this is not your speaker.
3. wattage of amps vs. wattage of speakers. For example, a Marshall Class 5 will drive a Greenback differently than a Metro amp JTM45.
I really dig this topic, but we should have these three things noted when reviewing.
