When I had a band in Green Bay, we invited a bongo player to all of our gigs. He was sort of a hippy, and my drummer liked him because he had the best greens. He brought a cool vibe to our modern rock songs though, and a really nice guy. Anyways, before a show, he'd burn white sage leaves. The smoke would go around his bongos and we asked him about it. He mentioned it cleansed all the spirits and the bad vibes so we would do a good show. And apparently we never "felt" like we had a bad show.
Nowadays...
When I can't get into what I'm playing, I change what I listen to.
We as guitar players are the sum of who we like + ourselves.
I get into a rut, then I change who I'm listening to.
I could go from Foo Fighters and Joe Bonamassa to Kiss and Ozzy Osbourne or John Mayer and Scott H. Biram... Led Zeppelin & ZZ Top, etc.
I usually get a charge or a new outlook on playing whenever I hear something 'fresh' in something I've already listened to 10,000 times. You hear nuances in these songs and it comes at you from a new direction.
My worst days playing are days when I am most uninspired.
