jamsearch, i've heard/seen malmsteen using tapping to play blues (well, at least he was trying to). was it well done? of course, the notes were ok. did it sound well? no, sir. definitely not.

I've never been a malmsteen fan so I take your word for it. I think blues music has a little different meaning for everyone. I think it should be pushed to the limit like say SRV or Hendrix, or Joe B or Led Zep or Pink Floyd etc. Blues would be boring to me if it was limited or confined in a box. I definitely respect your opinion, everyone likes what he or she likes.

I posted the links to Sam Coulson's (that even sounds like a bluesman, lol)  videos because I wanted to turn people on to a great player. I think a lot of people do like him especially after reading some of the comments on his page. He is frequently rated as one of the top viewed musicians on YouTube. I'm sure someday soon you will hear his name again. It's cool to see a natural player like him develop as it happens. I will keep watching him. Maybe soon he will open for Joe B. That to me would be a great show. smile

Re: A fan of Joe B - Check him out

Led Zep has a lot of blues. actually jimi page is more a rock-blues guitarist than anything else. David gilmour also has a lot of blues influence in his playing. The british wave has a clear identity. Even Black Sabbath has a lot of blues.

But that second wave that came during late 70's and 80's has no blues at all. only metal, metal and more metal. i think it's fine because it defines it more, but i don't think it's good to take influences from that heavy metal era and put it into blues. it just doesn't sound well. that's my opinion.

The kid's definitely got talent. Hope he keeps getting better and really makes a name for himself for his style. Like our resident guitar hero.  cool

This is the fine line I always walk and when someone defines it, the ride is over!

Exactly. It is what it is. It's like defining Rock. Can't be done. I've never been into shredding and after Van Halen tapping was way over used, but when I heard Sam's version of Foxy Lady... well I listened to it over and over. I just liked it no matter how some classify it. I never stopped and thought, "How should I define this?" smile
