From what I can see most of the feedback appears to be positive.
Dislike some of the clumsy phrasing used to describe Glenn Hughes performance but overall, for a first time out, I thought it was OK. 'The Last Soul' appealed to me more than yet another treatment of 'Mistreated' (so to speak).
It's rock music for sure, although JB added some of his more bluesy subtle playing to 'Mistreated' and I wasn't so sure it was fully at home there, but its early days.
Hughes is a brilliant vocalist and bassist. If he is a 'nutjob' then you would have to lump Plant, Gillan, Coverdale and many others into that category too. It's a sweeping generalisation which affords no credit whatsoever to superb performers.
Rock music tends to be somewhat overfuelled at times and the musicians involved can react to that sometimes overdoing the extremities of their ability. Glenn Hughes can sing and play in a vast variety of musical styles. It might not be to everyone's taste, but the shrieking banshee element of his vocal range can be regarded as a 'must have' in this genre of music. Why does he do it? Well, like dogs that can lick...........because he can
