Topic: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

He has landed on american soil with one mission....To amaze us with his skills....the best Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter there is on the planet. Have I gone too far?.... I think Not. The 2 hour 10 minute set boasted 19 songs that left the audience breathless and speechless.
The set list:
Ballad of John Henry
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
So it's like That
If Heartaches were Nickles
Further on up the Road
Sloe Gin
Bridge to Better Days
When the Fire Hits the Sea
Lonsome Road Blues
Happier Times
Three Times a Fool
Great Flood
Blue and Evil
Mountain Time
Woke up Dreaming
Young Man Blues
Encore:
Bird on a Wire
Just Got Paid

The highlights of the show for me "Sloe Gin" in which the opening solo brought grown men (and women) to tears. "Blue and Evil" and the Who's "Young Man Blues" both rocked with fire and passion....and "Woke up Dreaming" was longer and crazier than ever...."WOW" was the operative word. The 600 or so gathered at The McDonald Theatre in Eugene experienced Joe at his finest...the band was spot on despite Carmine sporting an eye patch due to recent surgery...Joe Joked "He's got the GOOD drugs" We were also lucky enough to get to see Joe at the meet and greet prior to the show after watching the sound check on a remote monitor..he was gracious and relaxed and generally a really nice guy. There were only 9 of us so it was intimate, informal and unrushed. Wow, 1st show of the US tour, first row seats, and a meet and greet. Talk about the perfect Joe Bonamassa storm. We are gluttons for punishment so we are heading to Portland tomorrow for show #2 then on to Bend on the 7th and Medford on the 9th....We shall report back all that is Bonamassa.

Thanks for the review and setlist.  Joe said on FB that he is going to be tweeking the songs some for the next show.  Have fun on your mini tour Murfdog...

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Thanks for the review murf.

Hard to believe WUD can get any better, but Joe just continues to amaze.  It makes it that much harder to wait for April 18th.

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Hey Murph, great to meet you last night.

I was indeed blown away.

The high point for me was Woke Up Dreaming (acoustic solo). As you all know, Joe's fingers are a blur during that song. Between riffs somebody yelled out "FASTER!" to which Joe instincitvly said "#### off", smiled big and then played faster.

I got to meet Joe after the show. He was gracious indeed. After the show, during the breakdown, I nabbed one of the roadies and got him to snag the setlist off of the Hammond B-3. I saw that you got one too. I also got tossed one of Joe's picks.

After the show Joe autographed those two items and my ball cap and we chatted a bit about my buddy Travis Larson. Joe met Travis at NAMM. If ya'll have not listened to TLB please do so. They have a ton of videos on their web site so you can do some free sampling.

Great experience!

Hope ya'll enjoyed dinner and your stay in Eugene.

P.S. Who needs Peter Frampton anyway!!!

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Fantastic.

Thanks so much.

5 songs from the new album and a whole lot of favorites.

How about some chatter on the guitars he is playing on this tour?

Umm let's see... I remember that he used a
Rickenbacker
several Gibson Firebird's (one was an awesome purple)
and for the finale, of course... a Flying V

I'm missing a lot. Seems like he played a dozen guitars.

Also, I shot several photos and videos with my iPhone. I'll go thru them and post 'em later today or tomorrow.

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Guitar update.

I had lunch with my BFF, who is an avid guitarist. Here's what he "remembers" Joe playing:
Seven different Gibson Les Paul's
Gibson Firebird (with only one pick-up)
Gibson Flying V (1958)
Two different Music Man's
Music Man - Ernie Ball
Alvarez Yairi Acoustic

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

T minus a few hours until happy hour / dinner at The Delta (ribs of course), a few large drinkable concoctions there and then an evening with Joe B.  tongue

Bringing a Joe B. newb / 1st timer who has become a recent convert / addict.  This is going to freaking RULE.

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

Great show review...do you know if it was recorded?

Would like to see some pictures too!

Re: Murfdog Oregon show reviews begin!

For you Portland folks who have never been to the Aladdin... they have a bar next door called "The Lamp" as in, Aladdin's Lamp. Good food and drinks.

If you hang around out back you'll probably see Joe's bus and maybe JB himself.
