Re: SNOW!
Generally I would vote that snow is fun, but these conditions mean that a parcel which was supposed to arrive today won't get here until monday probably

Great bloopers but too close to home for me too. Have some old family 8mm of 5 of us t-boning a small 4" tree stump at the end of a toboggan run. I still have scars. I was in front.

We've had a 'severe weather' warning for the entire country (well, what there is of it ) for this afternoon - snow, with a strong freezing north-easterly wind straight from the arctic resulting in a wind chill feeling of -15C, that's single digit F.
I'm off to get the shopping in and put the barricades up....
Surviving here in the mid-west deep freeze. This -30 to -40 wind chill has got to go...and snow we have tons of it so if anyone wants me to ship some just holler

Wow Patty, that sounds brutal. I am seeing the news with cars skidding on the ice and people hunkered down hoping for a break. You could send a few tons here to San Diego but I fear it would melt quickly in our 70 degree weather.
Thawing Rick.

The same in Germany: it sounded a bit like World War 3 is ante portas. In former times it was simply called "winter".

edit: enjoyed your pics from Cathy´s Camp. I think the snow has taken over your high pressure cleaning.

Ah yes, 'winter'...I remember it well. Our 'severe weather' came with some delay, but it's now here. It's been snowing non-stop for hours and I now have more snow outside than Camp Cathy does! I can't imagine what it's like in the countryside with this wind creating snow drifts all over.
Grown people throwing snowballs....
I found this beautiful winter poem and thought it might be a comfort to you.
It was to me and it's very well written and I hope that you enjoy it too.

The End
We just had our first whole day above 0 in God knows how long! It rained all day, which was lucky, since we would otherwise have been snowed under.
But what I really wanted to share was this stunning picture of 'ice mountains' on the frozen inland body of water known as the Ijsselmeer. If you want to see any more click on 'volgende' upper right.

Impressing natuurgeweld! Nonetheless I´m happy to fly to Vietnam on Saturday, expecting some SUN.

Hey George,
Lucky you! we had an incredible day here today. I mean, it has snowed every day for a week off and on but today. Wow!
Blizzard conditions from 10am til mid afternoon. Lot of snow fell. Another several centimetres on top of what we already had. Sparkasse temp guage tells me we are down to -3 and its dropping. Chaos on the roads all over. Good day to be indoors for sure, well apart from one good deed car rescue action.
Proper winter for sure this year
Mike
...hope the wind is blowing this way!.. love the snow.. and my dog loves it even more than me!
What can I say. Record snow and more on the way. The good thing is you know it's coming, you collect the needed supplies, and you will be safe. I LOVE it. I want my winters to act like winter. Because I live in a "rural" area, we know how to deal with these events. By 2 this afternoon my neighbor came to my rescue in his big daddy Deere, as my baby Deere was overwhelmed. So all I have left is a path to the door so I don't have to come and go via the garage. I wish I could post pics for all my Bonabuddies who were here in August. It looks quite different!! Off to stoke the fire... Cathy

Jane and Warren have both posted some stunning pics on FB, maybe some of them could go here too? (Warren had 45 inches!!!)
Cool pictures. We had one of those storms back in 1978 - I remember on our back deck the snow was up to the top railing (a good 30 inches+). The whole eastern half of Massachusetts shut down for a week - since I was still in college we thought it was a blast! Not so much fun for those on the coast - since this was basically a winter hurricane (if there is such a thing) they got snow and very big waves and high tides - a lot of people lost there houses to waves and flooding - of course they rebuilt in the same spot later,
I've been enjoying those pictures on Facebook, too. I guess our turn is Wednesday, though doesn't sound like as much as you guys got.
Spring isn't too far off!

Damn snow! On Friday night I had a choice of 3 good shows to go to (George Wesley Band in Wilkes-Barre which is 2 hours northeast, Jim Weider's Project Percolator in Bethlehem which is 1 1/2 hours east, or Cabinet right here in Harrisburg), and I had to miss all of them because of the snow. It started coming down about 3:00pm, started laying around 4:00pm, and by evening the roads were a disaster area. I had a friend waiting for me at the Wilkes-Barre show, and personally I would've still gone... I have a Subaru Outback, plus I might've even been able to get ahead of the storm, as it didn't even start snowing up there til 2:00am and even then it didn't stick... but my husband wouldn't let me, so I missed the Bob Marley birthday bash. By the time the snow stopped at like noon on Saturday, we had at least a foot or more... looked about like Cathy's pics. Then my husband and son dug out our porch, driveway, and my car, and I headed up to Wilkes-Barre for Saturday night's show, so at least I still got a show this weekend. It was the 35th Anniversary of the album Old and in the Way... a collaboration of guys from a bunch of different bands, paying tribute to Jerry Garcia’s bluegrass roots... awesome show, and it was recorded too... if anyone is interested in an Archive link to download or just listen, I'll post it. Right now I'm listening to the soundboard/Schoeps matrix which sounds great, but Keith also recently got a 24-track recorder and he's mixing that right now.

Wow Jane. I've seen movies and stuff of snow in the mountains and that thing hanging off the roof is a cornice! My better half is from cold country and she says you better get it off or it will take off the roof. Stay warm.
Rick
Yeah, we're getting a little dusting today. Somewhere in the neighborhood of between 9 and 15 inches depending on how close to the lake you live. Even though we are west of Lake Michigan, sometimes with a nice northeast wind, we get a ton of lake effect snow. So today, whatever we don't get from the storm to the south we'll get off the lake. Almost like a doubleheader.
I predict snow blowing/shoveling is in my future.
