Topic: Have You Tried It In The Dark?
No, not that you naughty things. I’m talking about listening to music, of course!
I appreciate that most of us listen to music ‘on the go’ nowadays, but there’s nothing like sitting down and listening to music the old fashioned way through real hi-fi speakers. An even better way is to listen to your hi-fi in the dark, with maybe just the glow of the fire on these cold winter nights (unless you live in or near the southern hemisphere ). Try it sometime. It’s the best way to listen and really focuses the aural senses and makes the stereo soundstage come alive. You’ll be able to pick out the instruments and vocals much better than just closing your eyes, which really doesn’t have the same effect.
The best kind of music for this treatment is atmospheric music like Eric Clapton’s “The Edge of Darkness” from 24 Nights, which Joe played as the last track on his PR show last night, and Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”.
Any other suggestions for listening in the dark?
If you haven’t already tried this sensory treat, please give it a go and let us know what you think. You may even be able to work out what Joe's singing on "Mother Love".
