Topic: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

It looks like a decent axe, but I'm wondering what the street price will be for the 200 non-aged, no signature guitars.
Probably won't get discounted too much from the $11K tag.

For that kind of money, you would think thay would string it correct...

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

So JP's sig and touch is worth 20k? Gulp.

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

What the hell is wrong with Gibson?! I mean, these will sell, but for that price you could get a few vintage guitars! Not a standard obviously, but junior/special, SGs etc.
It's far from worth the money!

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

No way.  You could pick up 4 or 5 JB's for that.  That's insane.   You can find real '59's for that price.

roll

REALLY!?

WHY OH WHY is Gibson choosing to rape us with signature models?

I understand that "Americans" need hourly wages, and "illegally imported" rosewood from Madagascar costs a pretty coin too, but c'mon!

I LOVE Gibson, and they are taking advantage of their place in guitar history & lore with overpriced guitar masterpieces.

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

Wow - If I'm reading that correctly, the aged version with JP signature is $10K more then the aged w/o sig, 10k more for his sig...thats silly, even if those are a limited run.  The worst part of it all with Gibsons, you need to play 10 of the same guitar to find 1 or 2 good ones - quality control not consistant.

Didn't the 59's have thin binding too? Cos that looks like the modern binding to me.

There's an extra $5K upcharge for the "thin binding" model... tongue

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

I wonder how many private lessons you get with Jimmy for that price ?

Gibson has been insane for years, I guess uncle Henry needs more nose candy

If heartaches were nickels, I'd have 35 cents!

I got it back in '96 when the Page models first came out. I'm sort of over it now. I dont like tapping the humbuckers (at least on my 70's stock pickups) cause it cuts the output/signal by a lot.

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

Will I play as good as JP ??? Wow! do they have a ''market'' for this guitar?
I'm trying to help my bro-in-law with finding a new ''original'' LP that hasnt been hollowed, relieved, Pleked, or chambered. One that says ''Standard'' on it.
The Gibson ''tradition'' and rock history around the LP is what is selling these high priced models. I believe my 89' vintage sunburst is gonna go up in price due to the many sub categories of the L. Pauls they make now...........It's like, can't I buy a simple cup of black coffee at Starbucks!?
I believe it is tit for tat between Gibson & Fender.... for everything new Fender does, Gibson follows with a comparative new model. I believe these makers are capitalizing on rock nostagia. The JB L. Paul seems fare in price given the parts and workmanship.  But when I was in Nashville at the Gibson Showcase, or at Guitar Center, I didnt feel nor see a L. Paul that compares to my '89..... These new LP's had blanched out fretboards, sharp fret edges, aluminum feeling metal parts, and hollow feeling.....sorry.
Telecaster prices, for example, can be out of this world for what originally was simply a slab of wood with a BOLT-ON neck. Simple parts and the guitarists hands.
Man I hope I havent offended anyone. I like my ''expensive'' gear and guitars, but the JP Les Paul is not for taking on the road.... or over to a friends party. All due respect guys! Thanks >>DAN

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

I mostly agree with you Dan.

Joe's Gold Top is a very nice guitar for the price, unless you paid retail. But for what they're going for street price compared with other Artist inspired models it's a steal. And where the likes of Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbins, Slash, etc. have been on top of the heap for years, Joe is just now hitting the big time and his LPs can't help but appreciate in value. But as Joe wanted, they need to be played, not sit in a closet or behind a piece of glass.

You just about need to buy a Custom shop Gibson these days to assure some level of quality.
They just pump out the Gibson USA axes as fast as they can it seems. I got one of the Trad Pros and I really can't find any gripes with it. The intonation is good (and I like the 60's neck), the body is solid (not 2 piece) and the pickups sound good.
Locking Grovers and coil splitting are nice touches.

I hear you about the Gibson Showcase. Last time I was there about 6 weeks ago, I was very disappointed with what they had out on display. Lots of Epi's & Gibson studios. Hardly any ES models aside from a couple of 335s. And they charge list there too. sad

Re: Got an extra $25,882 laying around?

I'm glad you found a good L Paul that pleases you! The G. Showcase in Nashville can kinda turn into a noisy Guitar Center type atmosphere, and I guess the guitars get heavy abuse. They had some 4k - 6k guitars dangling 6 feet off the ground....I was scared to hang one back up!......you know the 5 second hang rule!
Perhaps my post was out of frustration over pricing. I spend too much time cruising the web dreaming over guitars. I see the competitive battle between the two companies. They just seem to be pricing us middle class guys down to buying the Epiphone L Paul.....sorry not to good comparitively, or the Squire line of guitars that start at $200.00.
I still believe, given the 50 years or so of  rock guitar history, that the companies are promoting & selling more of a ''promise'' that a product. I'm very guilty of not playing my 89' L Paul in the spirit JB believes they should be played & not babied. I totally agree. Mine still smells not like saw dust, as I originally posted, but like the paste buffing compound the factory used on it...case included.
My 1991 Martin HD-28 feels & looks more solid than the new ones....IMHO.
Love my 1979 Epiphone Genesis Deluxe!,...great Grover tuners, dressing, &  pups, for $460.00 in 1980.
I love the wood in my 1977-1978 Epiphone, A-12 acoustic folk style guitar for $99.00
I paid $1,100 for my 89' L. Paul....how much is it worth now? That all depends on the buyer.....I'm not bragging here, but just showing the price differences as per year of production. (The ES-295 Scotty Moore played, cost $295.00....simple) I like the price range of the Traditonal Pro L. Paul. The 3 color choices are nice. My thought is that within 2 minutes of playing, you either like a guitar or not.
I think overall, all guitarists are looking for that ultimate guitar that fits & feels perfect. When you find that guitar that gets you excited, the price seems to matter less. And that's all that matters! If you sleep well at night after paying for the JP Les Paul, then great! I will be envious of you more so than alarmed by the price.
The L.Paul robot guitar 1st generation had a big price tag on it, but then I saw one at Showcase for less than 1k.....are these sought after guitars now? The new Dusk Tiger does not thrill me....being an older guy, and not into recording. Seemingly a big departure from a traditional L. Paul.....way to left field for me. A self tuning guitar will not help the new guy develop his ear. I guess with this new D. Tiger, they researched enough to see a demand for such a guitar....or is Gibson TELLING us we need to buy this guitar....once again selling a ''promise'', not a ''product.'' I dont know, I could be all wrong...again.....educate me people...... Thanks >> DAN

PS .... my first time in The G. Showcase, Nashville....My son & I walked in, and there was a family of 5 over at the acoustic section playing and singing mandolins and acoustics, and I was tickled! It was great, & they sounded great. And a little later, I  heard a kid in the amp room playing speed metal.....big extreme.
