I'm glad you found a good L Paul that pleases you! The G. Showcase in Nashville can kinda turn into a noisy Guitar Center type atmosphere, and I guess the guitars get heavy abuse. They had some 4k - 6k guitars dangling 6 feet off the ground....I was scared to hang one back up!......you know the 5 second hang rule!
Perhaps my post was out of frustration over pricing. I spend too much time cruising the web dreaming over guitars. I see the competitive battle between the two companies. They just seem to be pricing us middle class guys down to buying the Epiphone L Paul.....sorry not to good comparitively, or the Squire line of guitars that start at $200.00.
I still believe, given the 50 years or so of rock guitar history, that the companies are promoting & selling more of a ''promise'' that a product. I'm very guilty of not playing my 89' L Paul in the spirit JB believes they should be played & not babied. I totally agree. Mine still smells not like saw dust, as I originally posted, but like the paste buffing compound the factory used on it...case included.
My 1991 Martin HD-28 feels & looks more solid than the new ones....IMHO.
Love my 1979 Epiphone Genesis Deluxe!,...great Grover tuners, dressing, & pups, for $460.00 in 1980.
I love the wood in my 1977-1978 Epiphone, A-12 acoustic folk style guitar for $99.00
I paid $1,100 for my 89' L. Paul....how much is it worth now? That all depends on the buyer.....I'm not bragging here, but just showing the price differences as per year of production. (The ES-295 Scotty Moore played, cost $295.00....simple) I like the price range of the Traditonal Pro L. Paul. The 3 color choices are nice. My thought is that within 2 minutes of playing, you either like a guitar or not.
I think overall, all guitarists are looking for that ultimate guitar that fits & feels perfect. When you find that guitar that gets you excited, the price seems to matter less. And that's all that matters! If you sleep well at night after paying for the JP Les Paul, then great! I will be envious of you more so than alarmed by the price.
The L.Paul robot guitar 1st generation had a big price tag on it, but then I saw one at Showcase for less than 1k.....are these sought after guitars now? The new Dusk Tiger does not thrill me....being an older guy, and not into recording. Seemingly a big departure from a traditional L. Paul.....way to left field for me. A self tuning guitar will not help the new guy develop his ear. I guess with this new D. Tiger, they researched enough to see a demand for such a guitar....or is Gibson TELLING us we need to buy this guitar....once again selling a ''promise'', not a ''product.'' I dont know, I could be all wrong...again.....educate me people...... Thanks >> DAN
PS .... my first time in The G. Showcase, Nashville....My son & I walked in, and there was a family of 5 over at the acoustic section playing and singing mandolins and acoustics, and I was tickled! It was great, & they sounded great. And a little later, I heard a kid in the amp room playing speed metal.....big extreme.
