Re: It is with profound sadness...

There was also a picture on Stu's fan site of his truck with Bonamassa sticker. I always think of Phil/Stu if it is in an archive somewhere maybe you could find it. I know you remember it Jane.

Sad news indeed.  My condolences to Garth's family.

Re: It is with profound sadness...

So sad. sad  From 2003 when I was introduced to Joe...Garth has been someone who, when I saw <G> on the forum, I knew that it would be a post to take note of! His support, knowledge and enthusiasm were always infectious. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Mr G.

Thanks for sharing that pic, Patty.  That show was the last time I saw Garth.

Damn, damn, damn.

Re: It is with profound sadness...

Garth was a good friend of mine.  He is the one that taught me what good music was.  It is because of him I have begun listening to the blues.  I want to thank all of you for the kind words and the pictures you have posted.  I have copied some of the pictures to the face book memorial site.  All of you who are on face book are invited to post your pictures and kind words there as well.  For those of you that live in the Omaha area there will be a party in his honor in the spring just as he requested.  Any one interested let me know.  I will have the details soon.

Re: It is with profound sadness...

Re: It is with profound sadness...

Dang, this is really very, very sad. sad I'm choked up and not even having met him other than the old fansite photo and those other few OF him, he was a great good guy and fan of fans. sad  Going way, way, way back,"G" was always an active forum participant & observer-a timely, timeless poster, as opposed to always having to have something to say about everything, he spoke more with less words than I ever can. He was the exact opposite of trite. A lovely man and he always had the best avatars to boot, from his robot to his final animated G! Another sad, sad, day. sad I need a handkerchief now.  Garth, R.I.P. and if you're rockin' at heaven's door, All is well.  I can't rock on for a while though... sad
Hopefully his 2008 post of Joe Bonamassa's World Tour 2010 http://www.jbonamassa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8347 will now include have him in attendance for all performances this year and always. smile

Re: It is with profound sadness...

Now that I have time to collect my thoughts I have a few Garth stories to share. My journey to meeting <G> started in 2002 at a listening booth at Tower Records. My wife found a great CD called “So It’s Like That” by Joe Bonamassa. Soon I was traveling to Reno to see Joe live. By the beginning of 2003 I was posting on Joe’s website and collecting live shows by the band. I still remember the show Garth first sent. It was from March 2003 recorded in Colorado Springs. I returned the favor with another show plus a bonus CD. It was a mix of studio releases by The Hoax. Image my surprise when Garth sent me a list of live recordings he had by The Hoax with an offer to copy them all if I supplied the blanks. It was the start of a friendship that bonded us forever.

Soon we were mailing packages when ever we found something good. I got a CD that came with a one word review by <G>. The word “Great” was repeated many times on a post it note attached to the CD Freedom Five Miles by the Chris Aaron Band. He was right as usual.

About 4 years ago a got a package with 4 CD’s from <G>. They are called Perfectly Good Guitar Vol. 1-4. This time the note said “The 4 are selected guitar cuts from my “collection”. Spliced together for your listening pleasure. Some you will recognize, some you’ll NEVER. Great for long road trips in the car. I’m proud of myself on these, heh heh” He was right to this day some of the songs I have no clue to the artist and could care less. The fact he hand picked the tunes is all that matters to me.
My favorite Garth story happened just this past summer. Jim Suhler was coming to Omaha on a Saturday so I asked <G> to please get me an autographed  CD since Jim doesn’t tour in my neck of the woods. The following Monday <G> emailed me that the concert got rained out before Suhler took the stage. Then two days later a package arrives with not only a personalized autographed CD and a CD full of amazing pictures the concert under a cloudless blue sky. He played me like a fiddle.

Thanks to <G> I now listen to Indigenous, Aynsley Lister, Jim Suhler and Monkey Beat, Albert Cummings, Eric Jerardi, Van Wilks, Scarlett Runner,Baby Jason and the Spankers, Melvin Taylor, Gov’t Mule, Poppa Chubby, Ian Parker, Mick Stover’s Gentlemen’s Blues Club, Freeway and  Gaetano Pellino to name only a few.

I’m having my only memorial service featuring some of the above, the Perfectly Good Guitar CDs and of course Joe’s “So It’s Like That” since that started it all.

Your Blues Brother,
David Iverson (HF)

Re: It is with profound sadness...

I've had a difficult time trying to organize my thoughts since my original post yesterday morning. I could talk about Garth's enthusiastic contributions to our early Street Team efforts and the Fan Website, his warm and friendly nature, his endearing sense of humor, or how he turned me on to some great music including David Gogo and The Gentelmens Blues Club.

The last email I received from <G> was on December 7th, 2009. I had written to him about Joanne Shaw Taylor coming to Omaha on February 4th, and told him I wanted pictures and a review. In the haste of my email I wrote February 4th, 2110 as the date she was coming, instead of 2010. Garth replied,

"2/4/2110?? **## Stu, I don't expect to last through 2010. WILL be a miracle if I do though. Yes, I've heard a few of her boots, but had no idea...will have to go...pics for Stu too!"

I thought he was just joking around as usual. I didn't have a clue.

Who Garth was, and what he was about, might best illustrated by the following thread from May of this year. It speaks for itself, and tells you more about <G> than I ever could.

Re: It is with profound sadness...

I only knew Garth from the forum, but I knew that everytime he posted, it was going to be worth reading. We have a lot of Bonametals around here, but he was Super Duper Diamond Bonametal. This sucks.

Re: It is with profound sadness...

I never knew Garth except thru the forum, yet after reading all these posts I am sorry I never got the chance.  He sounds like the prototype for so many other forum members - sharing, funny, and oh so knowing about the music!  His contributions here will be missed.

Condolences to all.

Sandy

Re: It is with profound sadness...

I only knew Garth via his posts when I was a pre-poster. Always cogent and to the point. I lost my best and closest buddy last year to the same disease. This news came back and hit me like a ton of bricks. It is a very tough way to go. Took a while to work up to this post.

My heart goes out to <G>'s family and to all his friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Rick

Re: It is with profound sadness...

Well I didn't know Garth, other than reading his posts now and then, but in reading everyone's stories, memories and kind words about him here, I can really get a feel for what a great person he must have been.  I'm actually getting choked up.  Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Re: It is with profound sadness...

Like so many others here <G> and I shared a love for The Hoax.  I can remember like it was yesterday the day I came home from work and there was one of the many Hoax packages from Garth sitting in my mailbox.  He had come across a vhs tape of Indigenous, The Hoax and Chris Duarte from Omaha. He seemed so excited to get a copy out to me.   Since then we have shared so much music and he turned me on to some new bands I had never heard of.  Freeway was a band I learned about from Garth and it remains in my rotation to this very day.  His photography is second to no one. Absolute brilliance.      You will be sadly missed <G>  My sincere condolences to Garth's family.   Rest in peace my friend.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late
