I must say I am a major fan boy.
But it is masked because it's so diverse in people who play the LP. I can't think of anyone who plays one simply because of Les Paul himself. For me that's about 20% to be honest cause I'm a WI boy.
I wouldn't have a Les Paul (or even be playing guitar period) if it was not for Ace Frehley. I grew up wanting to be in Kiss - and wielding a Les Paul. Owning one is a childhood dream come true. What did I know? I was two years old and listening to Creatures of the Night.
I also grew up listening to Ozzy. I have the same birthday as Randy Rhoads. Randy Rhoads? Les Paul.
Dire Straights - Money For Nothing. Mtv Video - Mark Knopfler? Les Paul.
Fast forward to me watching Def Leppard on Mtv... Steve Clark? Les Paul.
Then Guns N Roses got big... Slash? Les Paul.
Zakk Wylde joins Ozzy, wielding a Les Paul.
Wayne's World Comes out... They worship Aerosmith. Joe Perry? Brad Whitford? Les paul.
I started getting into Zeppelin. Jimmy Page? Les Paul.
When Joe came out, he played a Les Paul for Had To Cry Today. I always thought he saved the Les Paul for his best song. Now, he has a signature model.
Also, the over-winning thing about a Les Paul is that Lester himself hails from Wisconsin. I am as well.
Two things that make America what it is to the world as we know it came from Wisconsin: Harley-Davidson and Les Paul!
