Topic: Carre, Amsterdam, Nov. 26

I'm surprised that no one else has started a review topic yet, so I guess I'll have to put my hand up first, even though I'm far too tired now to write anything lengthy or meaningful. (I'll expand over the weekend.) Nor do I have access to whatever Michael had in order to produce his recent hysterical effort. wink

The day and evening was characterized by wind and rain, and by the many meetings of Bonabuddies from all over. Cathy and I met up with Marianne, Annelies, Michael, Geko, Andre, Eva, Rudy and many more - and finally met Suzanne (and husband) in the flesh. cool

Joe played his standard set - I particularly enjoyed BOJH and Bridge; Sloe Gin brought a tear to my eyes; Cathy, Michael and I put on dark glasses for Just Got Paid. cool big_smile

The show was of the expected high standard, though we had the impression that the boys might be a little low on energy, which turned out to be the case when we had the opportunity to exchange words after the show. Hardly surprising with such a killer traveling schedule.

(More detail and pics to come....)

Re: Carre, Amsterdam, Nov. 26

I'll start with the venue. The Carre is one of those majestic opera houses. It sits on the Amstel River, slightly inclined, so that the well lit, white pillared front gives the illusion of approaching a monument. The interior was plush. Another experience of wonderful sound and lighting.
I always feel sorry for Joe's opening acts. This was "nice" acoustic songs played to a crowd of Joe hungry fans. Very tough gig! But he took it all with grace and humor.
Short break, lights dim and we're off!...Ah...there's that tone....I won't repeat the set list (Check Michael's menu). The songs flow like liquid gold, dimming the lights in between, waiting for the first note of the next offering. Magic! I will give an extra standing ovation to Bogie. I love the fact that he is now visible. He is relentless!! He had an extra "umph", Eva noticed too. Rick is also more animated. He "gets down" with those keys and his vocals add depth. Again, nods to the sound mix. Carmine danced the night..always "present". Joe served each note with care. His voice continues to mature and amaze those that haven't seen him in a while.
I do have to agree with George when it comes to energy. AND, I also agree that to try to keep the pace they do is beyond human endurance levels!! We have decided we're spoiled because we've experienced those special shows where the air is electric and you feel the magic! Again, it was a wonderful show, sold out far in advance, and the crowd loved it!
The BEST part...Getting to reunite with my Bonabuddies!! Joe fans are special people. period!! I adore you all and know we'll do it again!!!    Cathy

Hi Joe,

my parents were at your gig in Carré last Thursday and they really enjoyed it! I'd also like to inform you that Leif de Leeuw (the guy you played with on Thursday) has won the Dutch guitar awards at Hilversum today, he was really awesome.

Greetings,

Tommy van Eldik

Re: Carre, Amsterdam, Nov. 26

A great show once again, go to see Joe and the guys after such a long time.
Joe mentioned that he's now done after playing the RAH, the Olympia and Carre, but I'm guessing this is not the last we've seen of him wink
I've posted some pics I shot here.

Re: Carre, Amsterdam, Nov. 26

Hi everybody,

I am a fan after his concert last year in the Waerdse Tempel in Heerhugowaard. In the proces of that time i've got my wife to become a fan also.
The concert in Carre was great en we enjoyed the great show and music. it is always a great place for a concert of the music you like so much.
But Joe didn't score points with my wife by not playing "Asking Around". But a there is always a next time.

Greetings BP

Dear Cathy,

Thank you! for this review. I wish i had your way with words, it describes exactly how we felt....

The songs flowed indeed like liquid gold. An extra standing ovation to Bogie, he's an amazing drummer, his drumming on Happier Times went straight through our bones. And Rick and Carmine, without these three wonderful musicians Joe would not be able to do what he does to us smile

And very nice to finally meet you, we are honoured to belong to such a club of fans.
Hope you had a good flight home!

Re: Carre, Amsterdam, Nov. 26

This was the 6th time I've seen Joe and the guys play. To start with the start: Jon was the best opening act so far (OK, Joe opening for BB can't be topped). His cd is still in the car.

Carre is a great venue, but I still have problems with chairs at a blues concert wink

Joe played as usual (strange to call "great" usual) but there is one thing I really missed: what happend to Asking around for you? On the RAH DVD he talks about is as the way to end a show. So I was hoping for a second encore but then everybody got up and left...

Well, there will always be a next gig. Just wondering when that will be.

North Sea Jazz perhaps as the earliest in NL?

Re: Carre, Amsterdam, Nov. 26

What month in the year is the North Jazz Festival?
