Having seen JST on Friday, I agree with you about her position on Saturday's schedule. Can't quite understand it myself, but she was probably glad as she said to me on Friday that it would allow her to get some sleep. hmm

I'm really pleased the Mule lived up to your expectations Phil - and maybe next time around I'll be there with you.
Just a shame that you missed out on the Bonabuddy party that was going on at Leamington.  I was aware that the guys had been in touch so I'm glad you didn't feel too left out.
As for Joanne - she was in no rush to get away, and was down the front with the rest of us enjoying the other artists for quite a while. Cant wait to see her play a full set again on Wednesday!

Re: Buddy Whitt, Aynsley, Oli, Siegal, JST, Gwyn Ashton, Yardbirds - £20!!

We all the best time, it was so much fun, super company and stunning live music. I bagged a photopass vie Duncan/Wooders and Blues Matters, so should have some good photos (if not im in trouble with Greenose). I was in the ‘pit’ at the front with Virgil and Gabriel behind when we recognized Buddy Whittingtons roadie Alan, he snagged us some back stage passes which was neat. The artists have a large room downstairs and they have Tammy Wynetts touring trailer down there to chill in. It looks like an old 50s american diner, lots of chrome and pastel colors, very neat.
Lovely venue, they have done a great job with it. Virgil got together with Joanne Shaw Taylor and Oli Brown, we all gte on famously. the tour next year is going to be so much fun.
Stand outs from the night for me were Aynsley, Oli and Jo. I really liked Buddy too and thought Ian was captivating, would like to his full show as he was just getting into his stride.

Ok fellow Bonanutters, first a few personal pics (artist pics to follow) and two Oli videos. If anyone (Martin? big_smile ) feels like putting names to faces on the group photo, be my guest! wink

And let's give a wave to Eva, Andre and Michael, who are all at the Olympia in Paris tonight.

I'll have a go George. I've used lower case for forum names and started real names with capital letters. So from left to right :

Lydia, mbcl, front = Gabriel, back = icon, ges, tripsy, eldo56, cathysiler, amsterhammer, wombat, maggie, currymandavid, Maxine, Virgil, Oli.

greenose should have been in it but he wandered off at the wrong time sad

It really was great meeting up with all the Bonabuddies. It was like the RAH weekend was only last week and we all seemed to pick up where we left off. Wonderful big_smile  Joe, I don't know if you ever pop into your Other Artists section but I hope it makes you feel proud to see the friendships you've inspired here.

Icon's review described all the acts just as I would have liked to have done myself so there's nothing to add there. I enjoyed them all in their different ways but I was most impressed with Oli Brown. I've never seen him play before and I'm sure he'll go far. And Ian (and Phil), I agree wholeheartedly that Joanne should have been further up the bill. She puts so much passion into her guitar playing and I would have liked a longer set to hear more of her tremendous voice. I think she would make a perfect support act for Joe some time in the future.

Next gig is a biggie – Joe in Southampton in only one week's time cool

Re: Buddy Whitt, Aynsley, Oli, Siegal, JST, Gwyn Ashton, Yardbirds - £20!!

You beat me to it curryman! And what's more you got it right.
Nice pic George - pity that us tall guys always get sent to the back on these occasions sad .
Mrs Icon is very pleased with it however. smile

Have a great time with Joe on Thusday!

Wombat - I saw someone from your dim and distant past today - he may call you later wink .
When I mentioned your photos from the Reading Festival, he muttered something about destroying the evidence? lol

Re: Buddy Whitt, Aynsley, Oli, Siegal, JST, Gwyn Ashton, Yardbirds - £20!!

I'll second Ian's review and summary of the evening. JST has such passion. Age and experience will enable her to harness it all and really "say" what she means. But Man, she's "ballsy"...rare in lady players, IMHO. Oli was all I thought he'd be. Great tone, hot licks, some funk to round it all out. Such a great young man too! Wooders, you are something! I also fell out when he said my name!! And, he did give a shout out to George later. He only played "Open Road" because I asked him to and then was blown away that I knew the words!! (Humble too!) Aynsley was HOT! I think he needs a "Live" CD..One of those you must see.

I also echo the sentiments regarding forum friends and the warm bonds that exist. Shows are elevated to a common experience for "the family". We are all lucky to have landed here. Much love to all the "old" Bonabuddies as well as my "new" ones.  Cathy

Special thanks to Currymandavid for our ride to and from the airport, and to Icon for the B&B.

Re: Buddy Whitt, Aynsley, Oli, Siegal, JST, Gwyn Ashton, Yardbirds - £20!!

Thanks Ian for summing up the proceedings very nicely! I agree with everything you said. Wonderful venue, great sound quality, fantastic musicians and lovely bunch of friends in attendance.
So great to see Cathy and George who travelled such a long way.
I did capture quite a few videos but you'll have to be patient.....there aren't enough hours in the day and I'm off to see Joanne and Virgil tomorrow which is going to be brilliant.
The only complaint I have about the whole thing was the erratic lighting. The range of lighting available was fantastic but I don't think the person in charge knew what they were doing. Either that or they don't realise that we like to be able to see the performers especially when they are soloing and that we don't like being totally dazzled by lights shining into the audience. I suppose I wouldn't be so picky if I hadn't been videoing but it was a little irritating.
Anyway...that grumble aside I had a fantastic time. My sister's friend was seeing this type of music live  for the first time and she was totally blown away especially by Oli. In fact you can hear her on some of the vids I took saying, 'Oh, my gooood!' .....another convert I think smile

Wooders, we missed you, but I'm glad you enjoyed the Mule. I really like the new album, By A Thread. I've been playing it a lot since I got it. Hope to see you and Kate soon.

Tripsy smile

Re: Buddy Whitt, Aynsley, Oli, Siegal, JST, Gwyn Ashton, Yardbirds - £20!!

Just want to echo what has been written as I can't find adequate words to describe my experience at such a brilliant event. However, highlights for me were Joanna - hadn't heard her before and really looking forward to the Jazz Cafe gig, Oli and Aynsley.  Will try to see Ian again and enjoyed Buddy's set.  I loved the way the day was 'wrapped around' with good friends from the forum who were also so welcoming after I had driven around Leamington in circles trying to get to the hotel!  the photo is a good reminder not forgetting Duncan of course.  It was great to chat with Virgil and Gabriel- all the best for next week.
Getting ready for Amsterdam now (more time with Cathy and George - it was great fun sharing the music with you on Saturday) and Southampton next week.  smile

Not surprisingly, it sounds like I missed a really good event. Thank you for all your kind words. I missed you too, but I hope you felt my spirit there. wink

From the photos, it certainly looks like you had a good time too. It's also great that George managed to get Cathy's big moment on video. lol

What I want to know is, what was Duncan doing when everyone else was having their photo taken? wink

As it transpires, due to family problems we wouldn't have been able to be at Leamington anyway and I was very lucky to get away for the Mule gig.

Looking forward to seeing some of you at the Jazz Cafe gig with Virgil, Joanne and Oli on the 16th December.

Anyone happen to remember who took one or more pics of Cathy and me with Oli? It wasn't with our camera.

Leamington was a great gig
http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq31 … eamington/

Met some great people there and some new friends. Good to watch most of it at the front with Virgil & The Accelerators. Got to chat with Buddy Whittington and Ian Siegal ( who apparently changed his set after our chat ) thanx Ian smile
I had to leave not long after Aynsley started so missed him & The Yardbirds.
Good sound ,Very crap lighting. I wonder if this is going to be a regular annual event? Would be good to think so. Very good crowd, amiable artists, Bloody good music and a wonderful venue.
Roll on Jazz Cafe London 16th Dec, should be good
