my buddy got one of the keeley modded ts-808's....we did a side by side comparison and for my money i liked the stock one a little better to my ears.
Funny you should mention the stock vs. modded thing. I've found that I liked the stock ones more as well. Most of the mods take the midrange out and boost the lows a bit for a more "transparent" sound. To me that what clean boosts are for. In my mind, a tubescreamer is great because of the color it adds to the sound. It offers a lot of amplifiers much needed midrange all the while taming the often boomier bass frequencies. Gives it a great cranked sound without all the volume and always cuts through!
