Well, David and I were there last night but where was Jeff? Couldn't see him anywhere, but then it was a bit like "Where's Wally (Waldo)?" trying to spot anyone in the crowd.
The support band were a bunch of geriatrics (yes, all right I know, I'm not far off being one myself
) called Dirty Strangers. They seemed to know only one song that was repeated about six times. Well, that's what it sounded like to me. They were like a sexagenarian version of the Sex Pistols.
Walter was his usual fun self, making faces and saying what a great audience we were etc. and shredding, shredding, shredding.
I hadn't seen Walter for around three years and it may be the same before I see him again. I love Walter and have nearly all his albums and a few EPs (I think I'm only missing Deep Trout), but you can have too much of a good thing.
For me, the highlight was probably hearing Going Down. One of my faves which I never tire of hearing, whoever it's by.
Jason Ricci has been playing harmonica with Walter on some of his gigs and I hear he's pretty good. Unfortunately, Walter said he didn't want to come over (to London?) so he told him to "f*** off". Nice.
We also had nice cowinkydink. I was fourth in the queue outside and while I waited for David I got chatting to the guy who was third. After we had chatted for a while and exchanged stories about which gigs we'd been to recently, we realised we liked the same artists. Joe, Aynsley, Simon McBride, etc etc. Then the RAH concert came up and we both said we were in the front row! Amazingly it was the young guy sitting next to Shredit in seat 25! He's in a band called Venture South http://www.myspace.com/venturesouth and they're supporting Aynsley on a couple of dates on his current tour. He's also posted here under the name Mansfield (I've been doing a bit if detective work to uncover that gem). Another small world cowinkydink.
