Topic: Walter Trout concert on Radio 2 (UK)

Here is the text of the email I received;

"The sold out show by Walter Trout and his band on October 9th in Exeter was recorded in its entirety by the BBC. Listen to it live on Monday October 12th at www.bbc.co.uk/radio2  at 7pm UK time. Also for the following 7 days if you go to the Radio 2 site, find the Paul Jones page listed under Shows you can listen to the programme again. There will be two "bonus" tracks on the Paul Jones page."

I think I will record this big_smile

Re: Walter Trout concert on Radio 2 (UK)

I will use this as a warm up for the Shepherd's Bush show at the end of the
month.

I've had my ticket for some Jeff. Looking forward to it. Are you standing or in the upper level seats?

Just listening to the Paul Jones show on iplayer - Walter sounds on great form, as usual........one of the best blues players around........

I'll be standing David. May try to get a spot by the bar.

Off to see Walter again this time at the M Club in Crewe. Cracking venue, saw Joe there when he wasn't feeling too well. You can get right up to the stage.

So Geoff, what was the gig like? Was Walter the same hard working and amusing guy he usually is?

All being well, I should be at Shepherds Bush on Friday for his last UK date. Who else is going? So far I think it's:

Currymandavid
JeffCope
me

Anyone else? Michael, didn't you say you were thinking about it?

A friend of mine from Liverpool went to the Crewe gig and thought Walter delivered a cracking set. He thought the venue was very good, as well. I saw Walter in Glasgow and he was in fine form. The support band for both these gigs was P.A.U.L who are  very competent. The guitarist has definite SRV influences and they have an amazing female drummer.

At Crewe, Walter also had a young guest guitarist, Mitch Hattie (Haddie?), come up and play. My friend Chris was very impressed.

Chris is also going to see Joe in Llandudno. His sense of direction's not great, so if those of you who are also going see a rather lost scouser wandering about, please look after him!

Jeff, I'll look out for you. I see your avatar is one of Geoff's pictures from Cocoon.

My plan is to meet up with Wooders in the queue and we'll try and get up front if possible. If you want to try and spot me I'm on the left in another of Geoff's pics (with Icon and Mrs Icon)

I see from over on General Topics that you had just as frustrating a morning as me trying to battle your way into SeeTickets roll

cheers

Re: Walter Trout concert on Radio 2 (UK)

Well, David and I were there last night but where was Jeff? Couldn't see him anywhere, but then it was a bit like "Where's Wally (Waldo)?" trying to spot anyone in the crowd. lol

The support band were a bunch of geriatrics (yes, all right I know, I'm not far off being one myself lol ) called Dirty Strangers. They seemed to know only one song that was repeated about six times. Well, that's what it sounded like to me. They were like a sexagenarian version of the Sex Pistols.

Walter was his usual fun self, making faces and saying what a great audience we were etc. and shredding, shredding, shredding. hmm I hadn't seen Walter for around three years and it may be the same before I see him again. I love Walter and have nearly all his albums and a few EPs (I think I'm only missing Deep Trout), but you can have too much of a good thing. wink

For me, the highlight was probably hearing Going Down. One of my faves which I never tire of hearing, whoever it's by. smile

Jason Ricci has been playing harmonica with Walter on some of his gigs and I hear he's pretty good. Unfortunately, Walter said he didn't want to come over (to London?) so he told him to "f*** off". Nice. hmm

We also had nice cowinkydink. I was fourth in the queue outside and while I waited for David I got chatting to the guy who was third. After we had chatted for a while and exchanged stories about which gigs we'd been to recently, we realised we liked the same artists. Joe, Aynsley, Simon McBride, etc etc. Then the RAH concert came up and we both said we were in the front row! Amazingly it was the young guy sitting next to Shredit in seat 25!  He's in a band called Venture South http://www.myspace.com/venturesouth and they're supporting Aynsley on a couple of dates on his current tour. He's also posted here under the name Mansfield (I've been doing a bit if detective work to uncover that gem). Another small world cowinkydink.

Cowinkydink indeed Phil...

I can only agree with your points about the Walter gig; it was enjoyable overall I'd say, but Trout solos do just involve too much shredding (or pseudo-shredding, I suppose you could call it), and being at the front and being able to hear barely any organ was a bit rubbish too.
Goin' Down is an ace track though, I concur!  Have you seen the version Messrs Lister and Parker performed as the finale of the double-header tour they did two years or so ago - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N779_IORN2A - pretty good.

From Jason's MySpace Page:  Tour Cancelled with Walter Trout
Hey everyone I regret to inform you all that I will not be touring with Walter in England this month on the 26th-30th. Regretfully, I am not at liberty to expound on the details of these plans changing suffice to say the music Biz can be complicated and frequently troubling on many levels.

Jason is a true touring professional and I am sure that there is more to this story than Walter is letting on.  He was truly looking forward to this mini-tour from reading other postings of his.

I urge each and every one of you to go see him if you get a chance....it's not Joe but he and his band are (IMHO) top-notch musicians and entertainers, and generally pretty cool guys too.
