Topic: Good day...
I walked into my 11:00 music class this afternoon (Music 141: Music For Life) to hear Albert King playing over the sound system, apparently were covering the blues today. It's going to be a good day...I'll post back what we cover once class is over and I can get back to the dorms.
Edit: Pretty cool stuff, we covered some previous material with the slaves in New Orleans, talked about how they deal with funerals down there (slow mournful music on the way to the burial, upbeat happy stuff on the way back), moved onto the start of jazz with Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, and briefly talked about Robert Johnson. There was a loooong list of artists who've been influenced by/covered Robert's material such as Zeppelin, Clapton, The Allman Brothers, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, etc.
I found one of the slides online that I thought was pretty cool, it's a map of the where all the original bluesmen were originally from. I can't find it right now but I'll keep looking. I wanted to mention that my favorite guitarist was born on what's thought to be Robert Johnson's birthday, but it might have been a little much.
