The one guitar you regret most parting with? (Page 1 of 2)

I have a list of guitar sadly. 

1) 2001 SG Standard - was my first gibson and the neck was freaking awesome.  Sold it because the price was right and i needed heating oil.
2) 2001 C.F. Martin 000-18 it is basically a Eric Clapton model without the signatue or the v neck.  I never played it but when I put new strings on it it was the only guitar picked up for 2 weeks before the strings would loose that chime.  Sold it to pay a hospital bill.
3) Gibson ES-335 it was said to be a 1968 model but checking the serial numbers it was actually a 63'.  I got it for $2000 because it had a fixed head stock, was totally refinished, and nothing was original.  It had the 57' classics i have in my Les paul now.  and no they are not real PAF's by mistake.  I thought they might be but a specialist told me they were 57' classics.  Sold it to keep the house.  (remember I now have 3 kids and a wife that has been sick with blood clots all year.)
4)  89' Flying V it was not original and was set up for heavy metal but thourgh my blues jr. it gave this warren haynes sound that you wouldn't believe.  Traded my dad that one and he traded it in for a Telecaster of all things!
5)  2001 Eric Clapton signature model.  The first year they offered the vintage noiseless.  It was the guitar I always wanted but honestly didn't play that great.  The pickguard didn't even have any sheilding to keep radio signals out.  So tell me why is a top of the line EC strat not going sheilding but my american series stratocaster that was half the price does have sheilding?  Dumb asses at fender.
6)  Alveres 12 acoustic. I paid $200 for it with a case and it was a beautiful sound.

HOw about amps too.....

I had a
1) Fender Deluxe 90 solid state that I loved it sounded as good as a Hot Rod Deluxe just not as soulful.
2) Laney LC112 30 watt class A sold it to a friend that begged me for it.
3) Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb 1999 model Bought it used and it did great for me for 6 years.
4) Marshall JCM 800 50 watt head.  Played it at church once with the ES-335 and was told that we had more people come down to the alter to pray then any other service that group had ever had.
5) Fender Blues Jr. sold to my dad and get to use it still, but still its not mine anymore.
6) Peavey Windsor 100 watt head.  I sold the vibrolux to buy this amp because I wanted a Allman Brothers sound.  I had it with this amp very good for the money but its a one trick poney.  I could get Cream, Leslie West, ZZ Top, maybe some skynyrd, and Duane Allmans sound nailed with this amp but it took tweaking.
7) Epiphone valve jr.  just a fun little amp.  Hook up some low wattage speakers to it and go to town.

So like i said i got a list.  i got married and things had to go to pay for things.  Now I'm better off and am planning to buy again some day soon.  My next guitar is going to be a tobacco burst ES-335.  But that might be years from now.

Worst guitar I ever parted with was a 1962 Fender Stratocaster blonde over a ash body.  It sounded bad and needed frets.  I didnt have the heart to refret it.   So I let it go.. I really wish I had it back.  That and my 1968 custom cherry red Les Paul with p-90s..  and the list goes on and on and on and on!!!!!

Oh God, I love the LP with P90s...thinking one of Mike Bloomfield's and one of Luther Allison's guitars had that TONE...oops...er...um  guitars?...aw man...

I never have regretted parting with a guitar, whether given away or sold to a new happy home. A couple long ago I regret making parts out of...little and / or big...   We'll not discuss those any further ... Well, a couple WERE experiments...been there done that...

A different twist............

The guitar I most regret parting with was the Les Paul copy (can't remember the make) that I got for my 14th birthday.
After around 18 months of trying to learn on my own and not getting far, I signed on for lessons. Three weeks of "Coming 'Round The Mountain" did it for me - the guitar went, together with any aspirations of a rock star career.

Nearly 30 years later, after deciding to give it another shot, I got to play my first gig with a band and realised the mistake I made.

Never give up on a good thing people.

I've still got every single guitar I've ever owned. I couldn't part with any!

Nothing really expensive though, just stuff thats been worked on and played to death!

I've also got the guitar I learnt to play on! Which also happened to be the first guitar I learned how repair a snapped headstock on!! It's the circle of life I tell thee...

Another story with a twist. The first decent electric guitar I owned was a Fernandes Les Paul (see post on the Japanese guitar thread). It cost about £500 back in 1987. I traded it in for a Gibson Les Paul Studio about 5 years later and immediately regretted it....not that there was anything wrong with the Gibson. I just really regretted parting with the Fernandes.

However, a couple of months later, at Christmas, what was there under the tree?  The Fernandes. My girlfriend at the time, had taken pity on me and bought the damn thing back as a present. Still have the guitar but the girl is long gone. Ah well,  every cloud has a silver lining.

Hmmm, reading the responses thus far, seems to be a correlation between women and guitars coming and going:lol::lol:
