Looks like their management are looking at Pacific Road as a possibility on their way to the Isle of Man after the Borderline gig. They are a bit worried about lead time for promotion though. I suggest you check the BDS website for more info as it's not really on to promote here on Joe's site, even though it is the other artists section. Do hope they can pull it together.

Interesting stuff Geoff. i could not find the information that you refer to ontheir site, so please keep us informed.  smile

Sadly this will not happen as Pacific Road cannot accomodate them this time round, particularly at such short notice. They have BDS on their radar now and their agent has Pacific Road on their radar so we should see something come of it when (if, it always seems) they decide to tour the UK. I may jsut make that trip to Mona's Isle o the 12th - we'll see!

They were very good Bob! Didn't get to talk to Karl Allweier Albert's bass player, but I did get to visit with Justin Headlley who is the drummer and he really is quite funny. The overall sound blends real well with Albert's playing and Albert seemed to be having a good time with the guys on stage.

So, who's going to be at The Borderline for Davy and BDS's gig next Wednesday?

So far, I think it's:

Michael

Me

There must be more attending, surely? Come on, don't be shy. big_smile

It should be a fantastic gig, so if you're undecided, I believe there are still tickets left. Come along, the more the merrier. smile

Sell it Phil, sell it! You know I would be there if I could make the trip. These guys will not disappoint and I know they would like nothing more than to see the place busting at the seams with attendance. You'll be "Coming Up For Air" after the guys thrill you with their performance and then you'll be able to "Roll Away" back to the comforts of your homes with a satisfied smile smile on your faces and new found friends in your hearts. wink I guarantee it!!

Well, Davy's gig at the Borderline is tomorrow and I must confess I'm rather surprised and not a little disappointed that no one else has added their name to the list of attendees. Where are all you Londoners? Call yourselves music lovers! yikes

You've heard about Joe's first gig in London in front of about 60 people. Don't you wish you'd been there? Michael was. Davy's appearance tomorrow will be a similar legendary occasion. Follow the man with taste and get down to the Borderline tomorrow. wink

Here's one I'm sure you'll all hear at tomorrow's gig; "In A Little While". This was just recorded on September 29th:

And here's a version I recorded minus Ty on keys from August 1st:

This song has not yet been recorded by Davy and BDS. Let us all know what you think of the additon of Ty Bailie on keyboard. smile

Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Got a call earleir today at work and lo and behold, it was our old friend Michael Lynch calling from London. We had a brief chat and then he told me someone wanted to talk to me. Next thing I knew, I was talking to Davy Knowles on Michael's cell phone. I guess Michael saw the guys outside the club about to do a sound check and so he introduced himself to Davy. Of course, our Mikey just had to call. wink

Michael called at about 4:20 PM and the guys don't go on until at least 9:00. You know Michael, he likes to be up front! smile

Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Well, what can I say? This eagerly awaited gig definitely lived up to my expectations. It was fantastic. big_smile  The audience was near capacity with people seeking vantage points on the stairs and each number was met with huge applause and hollering (must have been a few US citizens in the audience lol )

Davy was genuinely knocked out by the welcome and reaction he received and he seemed quite humbled by it all. Fortunately, not too much that he couldn’t play a blinding set which comprised:

1.    Riverbed from Coming Up For Air – one of my favourites from this album and a great way to kick off.
2.    Coming Up for Air
3.    Messin’ With the Kid – this was quite simply electric. Davy admitted to being a big Rory fan (who isn’t) and set the place alight with his playing. Michael and I exchanged glances of sheer amazement and I thought of Duncan and how he would have loved to have been there for this one.
4.    Gotta Leave
5.    Tear Down the Walls – love this one for its sheer exuberance.
6.    Come Home
7.    Almost Cut My Hair – The CSNY number with some amazing guitar and effects from Davy – loved it.
8.    Outside Woman Blues – the Cream number that featured some nifty and very fast playing from Davy.
9.    Heavy on My Mind – it seems a naked ghost story inspired this one. Spooky. Shame they were male ghosts, said Davy. yikes
10.    Keep on Searching – featuring some nicely improvised keys from new BDS member, Ty Bailie.
11.    It’ll all Come Around – the encore that was cut short when Davy blew his amp, or at least a fuse otherwise I don’t think he would have got away this side of midnight. As it was he played for only 75 minutes, which was a tad disappointing having come all the way to the UK. sad
In spite of its brevity it was definitely one of the best gigs I've been to this year. Certainly in the top three. (No need to tell you what's number one. wink )

At the front of the stage with the best view were, of course, Michael, me, Martin (mbcl), Ian (Icon) and Simon (eldo56). Michael had his video camera for a couple of numbers and Ian was snapping away with his new camera so, hopefully, you’ll see something of the night later.

Needless to say, it was impressed on Davy that he’s been away too long and he must “Come Home” again soon. It can’t come quickly enough for me. wink

Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Wow Phil - brilliant review. So good in fact that I have just turned green with envy that I couldn't go to such a fantastic show.

Let's hope Davy tours more extensively in the new year.

Re: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Wow Phil - I asked for a full report and I certainly got one!  Glad all you Bonabuddies were up front - can't wait to see pictures and videos.  So glad you folks across the pond finally got to experience what so many of us over here have been seeing for a while.

It is so nice to go to a show and it meets and then exceeds your expectations.  I remember when I first went to see these guys last year that they couldn't possibly live up to the hype I had been hearing from JBRules and lots of others on this forum. Well, needless to say they surpassed the hype.  Davy is just one of those players that has to be heard and seen live to be appreciated.

My turn in November.  big_smile
