Topic: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - UK dates - announced

Yesterday evening I had the pleasure to speak to Davy Knowles for a forthcoming interview for Blues Matters magazine! He was on his tour bus on the way to Lake Tahoa for a live appearance supporting Chickenfoot on their US tour.  We spoke about several issues from his music upbringing, love of Rory Gallagher, his relections on Roll Away, the band split, the new album Coming Up for Air, it's songs and working with Peter Frampton and also his future plans.

All that is for the interview, but what I can say is that there are plans to tour the UK after the tour with Chickenfoot ends. The likely time at present appears to be the end of October and part of November. Nothing has been set in stone at this time, and cleary the economic climate is not ideal so we shall see. However I am hopeful. I am in contact with Davy's PR agent in London and will give more details if and when I have them. I'll change the title of this thread at that time.

Just to confirm from Davy's point of view he is very keen to do an extended tour of the UK and head into Europe too, he feels he's ready for it. All that may not happen immediately and probably some of next year will be spent on these shores...

It is a little hard to build a rapport by telephone, but Davy certainly is a friendly and pleasant person and for me as someone who has never met or seen him before, but have only watched enviously from afar, it was truly an honour to be able speak to him. Indeed it was thanks to the members of this forum that I ever heard about him! smile

Congrats Duncan, I'm sure you did well! And I knew you would find Davy to be a genuine, down to Earth young man much like yourself. I'm glad you brought up the topic of Rory. wink I can't wait to read the full interview! smile

I'm sure all of you over the Big Pond will find as I have, that Davy is truly a humble and sweet person who plays and writes his music with great passion. Just wait until you see and speak with him live!

Cheers Mate,

Hi Duncan,

Sounds like the interview went well and you managed to ask all those interesting questions. wink Glad you hit it of with Davy, too. Uncle Roy's not wrong! big_smile

Looks like my holiday arrangments are on hold until the tour dates are fixed. I suppose we could always spend our holiday following Davy's tour bus round the UK but there's not a lot of sun in the UK in November. hmm

Thanks

Just hope the dates don't conflict with Joe's tour at the back end of November early December!

Thanks for the comments. Yes, will be interesting to see when and where they are, and who's sofa I'll be sleeping on if there are none up here! smile

I had the choice to email questions to Davy or to call him at my own expense, however I would never have wanted to miss out on a chance like that.  It was a real honour to speak to Davy, hopefully more of us will do so before too long. smile

Great news Duncan.

I felt sure it wouldn't be too long before Davy came back to pay us a visit. Never a doubter be eh?

There was a clue in the lyrics of "Roll Away", and it sounds like you got the preview on "the story to tell". cool

Hey Duncan I didn't realize you were the interviewer that Davy was late getting in touch with. The band was 3 hours late getting to Slim's in San Francisco yesterday due to the Bay Bridge being closed for the Labor Day weekend. I warned Evan a month ago, but the traffic tie ups were incredible even if you planned for it. Regardless the bus finally made it to the gig and Davy & Co. knocked it out of the park. There were a number of Joe's fans in attendance as well as many BDS fans that I've seen 5 or 6 times now. The new material and band were outstanding and Davy even threw in a Creedence Clearwater Tune/Commotion. Here's hopin' he gets to the UK sooner than later, you will all enjoy what's comin'.

Hi Dawg, I don't think that was me, I interviewed him by telephone on Saturday afternoon from the tour bus but his UK agent was flying out a journalist from The Sunday Times to do an interview with him in San Fran. That interview wil be great publicity for Davy when it it published. I'll keep an eye out for it and get copies for anyone who wants one. smile

Wow, great news Duncan - I hope the first place where you post the link to that interview will be HERE! wink

Would nearly be too good to be true if these guys finally made it back to Europe sometime. I´ll go and see them for sure if it happens and I hope someone will have a sofa to offer for me as well if it´s far away from home. lol UK might be too far, but hopefull "Europe" will include "Germany" at some point....

Right you are. After receiving the latest blog from BDS it turns out a writer from the UK from Classic Rock Mag was in SF to interview Davy and review the show Sun. night @ Slim's. Keep your eyes open for that one. A little background on Slim's in SF, it's owned by Boz Scaggs and has become one of the best clubs to continually book quality acts such as BDS for over 20 years now. I always have a good time there.

Thanks for the offer Geoff! smile

It does show that the PR is in full swing when Davy gets interest from Classic Rock Magazine, The Sunday Times and Blues Matters all in one weekend. It looks like he is going to enjoy a larger profile when he does return to the UK. smile

Forgot to mention, the UK release of Coming Up For Air is 9th November 2009. I don't know if that applies in continental Europe too, hopefully. smile

Thanks for the info Sandy. I was told it was more likely to be late October and early November. Time is gettin on so we shall see.  The Sunday Times interview is likely to be in their Culture supplement on either the 1st or 8th November before the album release on the 9th. It is also hoped that Classic Rock's review will also be in their November edition.
