Topic: King of the Blues competition updates...
I started a thread a little while ago mentioning the Guitar Center "King of the Blues" competition. Some of the players on here said that they were going to enter and I'm wondering if any of you have made it past the first round. I was very fortunate enough to have had a decent night and I'm moving on!!!! I thought it would be cool to have a thread dedicated to the Bonamaniacs on here that are competing.
Funny story from my first round...I brought only 3 pedals (a tuner, Fulldrive II, and a DD-3). The amp that I planned on using was a Fender Hot Rod Deville because it's clean and has a nice effects loop. I can get my tone on just about any amp that has a good clean tone with the Fulldrive II. Well I hook everything up and I am getting no sound at all. Not that I wasn't already nervous as hell, my stuff wasn't working! I started sweating like a chubby girl at a Britney Spears concert. I was going for a Robben Ford/BB King vibe with my backing track but all I had left to choose from was a JVM Marshall, Peavey 6505 (YUCK), and Vox AC30CC. All of the effects loops were fried so bye bye delay. I had to play with a very very dry sound which I was NOT prepared for! With time running out to set up I said to hell with it, just plugged my FD2 into a randomly set up Marshall JVM's crunch channel and then went at it. The tone was definately bothering me but surprisingly I made it through! Lesson learned, this time my setup will be much simpler. What a nightmare but at the same time one of the funnest times I've ever had! The next round is this Thursday...wish me luck!!! I'll keep everyone posted and I'd like to hear how others are fairing as well.
