Thanks Simon, Jay was very complementary about Chantel after their jam at Leeds and said they struck up an instant rapport. Best of luck to both of them smile

Just to let you know that Jay Tamkin and his band are to record a session for the Paul Jones show tomorrow. Should be broadcast in a month or two, I'll let you know when! smile

Change that to less than a month, Duncan. Jay will feature in session on Paul's show next week, 20th July. Set your coordinates next Monday for Radio 2 between 7-8pm BST. smile

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Thanks for the info Phil. I think it's really great of Paul Jones to help promote our young artists. It'll certainly raise their profile nationwide.
I'll be listening for sure.

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Yes it is good news.

The other great news for Jay is that he will be following the route taken by Aynsley, Ian Parker, Jon Amor and most recently Oli Brown by supporting Walter Trout on several of his UK dates later this year:

11TH OCTOBER - 12 BAR CLUB, SWINDON

21ST OCTOBER - RESCUE ROOMS, NOTTINGHAM

26TH OCTOBER - THE STABLES, MILTON KEYNES

27TH OCTOBER - ASSEMBLY ROOMS,LEAMINGTON SPA

28TH OCTOBER - THE ROBIN 2, WOLVERHAMPTON

Make sure you get there early, it should be a great night! smile smile

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Jay Tamkin is certainly in the top echelon of 'people to watch'.  I'd put him up with Davy Knowles, Aynsley Lister and Oli Brown.

I think his singing on PJ's programme last night sounded remarkably like Oli. I agree Curby, a very talented young man and definitely one to watch. PJ was very complimentary about Jay.

I'm with you guys - loved the PJ show last night. Thanks for the Jay tip off Duncan.

Jay will be playing at Maryport this weekend, not too bad a line up after all - although todays boating tragedy may put a bit of a damper on the festival.

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Yes, sad news about the fishing tragedy. sad

Jay's session and album certainly showcase Jay's guitar prowess but less known is his piano playing and bass playing, which has seen him compared by some other musicians as a modern day Stevie Winwood (read the next copy of Blues Matters to find out who...)

Jay is playing several sets on the Maryport trail and even if you don't go into the main festival, it's worth heading over to see him and his band. There's a few other good bands on the trail too, fans of Dr Feelgood will love Hokie Joint, plus two of my friends from school play in the rock n roll trio The Cats! smile

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Anyone else going to this gig or is just me and Simon?

Jay will be performing 2 x 45 minute sessions and, according to the person I spoke to at the venue ealrier in the week, there's no charge. I'm rather surprised at that, so I'll have to see when I get there. Jay will be onstage at 9.00pm.

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

What an excellent evening - Jay is a very talented young man and enjoyed the way the band worked together.  I haven't seen them live before - definitely looking forward to the gig at the Jazz Cafe even more now smile.

Really liked the venue and also enjoyed chatting to Phil and Simon in between the sets.
