I'm currently deployed too. #6 for me. Iraq is not very pleasant this time of year. You should see the sandstorm slamming this place right now!
Anywho...I've been to the two large Army posts in Kuwait passing through on my way to/from Iraq. Your in for a shock.
By the time you get there, it will be cold (yes, it DOES get cold in the desert) so bring some warm gear to wear under your PT clothes and uniform if you work outside a lot, and you'll be there at the tail end of the rainy season which sucks. Walking on the wet sand in this part of the world is like walking on a mixture of slow drying concrete and peanut butter.
Your biggest concern there will be sunburn (once it starts to get hot) and the occasional scorpion. And since the bases are in the middle of NOWHERE. The Kuwaitis take security of the country very seriously and they keep anything from getting around the country anyways so you won't have to worry about rocket or mortar attacks.
Between all the cash we have burned on these wars, they are MUCH more built up than you would expect. AC'd rooms, decent food for the most part, and more gym space than you could ever ask for.
Since that new SOFA took over here in Iraq, I'm jobless. Literally. I just sit around all day either playing guitar, watching movies or spending a good 2 hours a day in the gym. Hell, I haven't even worn a uniform in almost 3 weeks. I've been wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt everyday.
If you have any questions or want some tips, just let me know.
