Topic: Deployment

Just found out yesterday that I will be leaving on my first deployment to lovely Kuwait! I have been in the Army (reserves) for 5 years now, and quite honestly, I am shocked it has taken this long. But to be honest I volunteered for this one... I'd much rather go on my own terms than get called up when im not ready to go. I leave in September to start my train-up, then come home a couple of times for holidays... then its OFF across the pond! I am only 22, so this sort of thing is exciting for me. I bet everyone is gonna get sick of me talking about Joe within the first week!!!!

Re: Deployment

Hey Logan,
Your message has touched my heart because you know we're all " family" here. I wish only the best for you and that you are always safe.  Will keep you in my thoughts and will look forward to you keeping us updated here if you can.  And thank you for being one of the fine young men that strive to keep us all safe.

Re: Deployment

Patty-
Thank you so much for the kind words. It is an absolute honor to serve this country, and I do it in hopes that my children, and my childrens children wont have to do anything like this. I actually saw you when you won the JB signature LP in Cleveland, but unfortunately i was new to the forum, and didnt really know anyone. But anyway, just for reference, I will have a lap top, and will remain active on the forum!!!

Re: Deployment

Hey Logan,

Good luck Buddy! At least the mess that happened in Kuwait was settled years ago. Keep your head down and be safe and if you can, give us some reports from wherever you're stationed. We'll be thinking of you...... smile

Re: Deployment

I'll be glad to send some care packages and I bet others will too. PLEASE be safe. You have lots of years to spread the word about J.B. Remember, we're all under "The Wing". Like others have said, thanks for your service. The Bonamites will be with you!  Cathy

Re: Deployment

Logan,

I salute your patriotism and will pray your tour is a safe and maybe exciting one.  Keep your ipod near when you're off duty and make sure you give your address - I'm sure a bunch of people will send you enough music to keep you happy.
Take care and good luck!

Re: Deployment

Logan,

Good luck, stay safe and thanks for your service.  I'm wondering if you are passing through Fort Dix, NJ (for clearance-medical etc.) before you leave?  It seems like soldiers from all over the country are being processed here now, going and coming home.

All the best to you Logan.

Re: Deployment

I'm currently deployed too.  #6 for me.   Iraq is not very pleasant this time of year.  big_smile  You should see the sandstorm slamming this place right now!

Anywho...I've been to the two large Army posts in Kuwait passing through on my way to/from Iraq.   Your in for a shock.

By the time you get there, it will be cold (yes, it DOES get cold in the desert) so bring some warm gear to wear under your PT clothes and uniform if you work outside a lot, and you'll be there at the tail end of the rainy season which sucks.  Walking on the wet sand in this part of the world is like walking on a mixture of slow drying concrete and peanut butter.

Your biggest concern there will be sunburn (once it starts to get hot) and the occasional scorpion. And since the bases are in the middle of NOWHERE. The Kuwaitis take security of the country very seriously and they keep anything from getting around the country anyways so you won't have to worry about rocket or mortar attacks.

Between all the cash we have burned on these wars, they are MUCH more built up than you would expect.  AC'd rooms, decent food for the most part, and more gym space than you could ever ask for.

Since that new SOFA took over here in Iraq, I'm jobless.  Literally.  I just sit around all day either playing guitar, watching movies or spending a good 2 hours a day in the gym.  Hell, I haven't even worn a uniform in almost 3 weeks. I've been wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt everyday.   big_smile

If you have any questions or want some tips, just let me know.

Re: Deployment

You'll find strangely these things turn into great times of your life when in the rear-view mirror.  Did I ever tell you 'bout the time I put a dart right between Saddams's eyes? You see, it was back in '90, we were..ah I'll wait 'til you guys get back and listen to your tales first!  Very important advice:
