Yeah, I feel the same way.  That price is just nuts.  I'm a huge Gibson fan but I'm not ever going to buy another brand new one.  I'll pay for quality anytime but I'm not going to get ripped off for it either just to pad some companies bottom line. 

Very glad the JB Goldtop is not priced in that range.  Other than a collector for closet piece, who would really buy this to actually PLAY? 

  I'd rather pay someone to build me a 59' replica than even consider that price.

I just got an up close and personal look at the BG R9 sig and while it's shamelessly overpriced....is about the damn prettiest Lester I've ever seen.  As long as Gibson makes super light, gorgeously flamed, mojo drenched Les Pauls there will be people willing to shell out big money for them.  I do find it odd that there is about a $5K difference between Joe's model and Billy's...oh well.  I think the major reason Gibson makes those guitars so expensive is A) for the cork sniffing collectors, doctors, lawyers, and otherwise uber rich.  B) To raise interest in their products.  C) And finally the biggest reason, so in this horrible economy people can actually look at a regular $5000 flametop R9 and say to themselves, "wow that's a bargain compared to the BG signature guitar!".  While I don't think people are quite that dense, I found myself looking at a beautiful $5k R9 next to the BG in a whole different light.

Going for about 3K on Ebay...

My local GC called me something like 7 or 8 times yesterday desperately trying to get me to buy one. I finally told them to stop calling! The BG-LP is nothing more than a glorified R9 LP. It's NOT even Murphy aged. It's aged at the custom shop and it has Seymour Duncan "Pearly Gates" pickups. Whoopie!! So what qualifies this guitar for such a high price? Not a freakin' thang!!!

The PG guitar is a POS because it's just an overpriced R9

Due to gibsons prices I've actually went away from focusing on LPs. (looking at the ES-339 now)
They are charging rediculous prices for the standards now, especially when they're so far from what a les paul should be!

Also, they done a stupid thing with the 61 reissue SG, putting a nashville on it! Why?! when the nashville didn't exist in 61!
Gibson need to get their act together, I know it's tough times with money just now for companies, but there's saving money and there's pissing off your customers.

"Courses for Horses" Springs to mind, I think the price of that guitar is outrageous but if people are willing to pay that then hats off to Gibson. Personally I'd prefer a solid dependable guitar of my own that isnt based off someone elses :x

I think a prudent move on all guitar making companies would be to have a fair price range / quality in the reach of the ordinary persons budget £800-900 on a guitar seems reasonable to me, but at that price I'd expect something damn good. Honestly I see no one churning guitars out at that price which are worth it (other than custom makers / small companies). It all boils down to paying for a name..

That being said my main guitar I bought brand new a Fender Highway One back in 2005 (50's style neck etc) and I got it for a bargain price at the time £500 I really feel like nothing else I've played comes close to it for price performance fender hit the nail on the head with that run of guitars.

I recently got a new LP Traditional Pro from GC; street price on them is $1999. Great axe for the money I think - BB3 & 57 pickups with coil switching, 60's neck (which I love) and locking Grovers. OK, so It has a rather plain grained piece of maple.
Not from the custom shop however. If you want highly figured wood then you have to pay another $300 or more for the regular Traditional or the plus top model. It plays and sounds great. What more do you want (aside from the pearloid tuners and a gorgeous piece of maple and the custom logo on the case)?
