Yes it's certainly the trendiest, not the best.

None of these would be in the top 20:

Kirt Hammett, Kurt Cobain, Johnny Ramone, Jack White. Sorry I've not heard of James Burton. I have though heard of Joe and the others.  Others that appear to be missing would be Ritchie Blackmore, Buddy Guy, Robben Ford, Derek Trucks (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Robert Johnson while his songs were iconic, was actually not the best early blues guitar player either.

Was this a reader's poll or did they toss the dice in their headquarters for this? (If so, is this the new way of stirring sh-- up... ahem, get people talking and sending them mail?) Just wondering. Such lists will always be at least a little bit subjective, really who's to judge the order of the top guitarist ever? And I get you saying it's more of a trend list but even that doesn't feel completely right, at least to me.

Also, where on that list is Rory Gallagher, as an example. Just curious.

Why am I even giving this so much thought, that's most likely the intention of publishing the whole thing.

Ummm, I hate to rain on everybody's parade, but this list was published back 2003. Joe just wasn't that well known back then. Now, if they came out today and didn't put him on there, that would be a crying shame.

Joe has a list... he featured a song by each during his Sirius "cup of joe" DJ slots. I remember writing them down... complete with 3 pages of notes.  Here is his list:

hey eva.  i read rolling stone.  i probably wouldn't but i got a deal on it, a year's subscription for a dollar.  as for the lists they put out, and by the way i think this one is a few years old unless they did it again, you have to take it for what it is.  which is to say, crap.  It is mainly a modern popular music magazine.  However, there is normally one good article a magazine (For example i have read good, long pieces on derek trucks, kris kristofferson, and steve earle since getting the magazine) on music, then maybe another news feature that is sometimes neat, and occasionally a few good small quarter page size parts.
