Topic: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Hi guys,

here is the videoclip of my Ceriatone rig.
I have made it yesterday inbetween my working time.

Let me put all the excuses before. wink I'm not good in playing "something" out of the air.
Rather like to play with a band or jam to a backing track.
So overlook this and see it more as a demonstaration of the amp sound...

Justin, I did as you suggested.
The 2550 runs over the celestion cab and the HRM over the EV cab.
Also the cabs are upright now which spreads the sound better and you
don't have this beaming thing from the bottom cab. Good tip! smile

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Sounds great. I am becoming a big believer in Ceriatone amps

#275 JB LP

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Wow Alex you really have a great rig! I really appreciate you taking the time to post the clips up as well! With any luck I might be able to get a 2550 clone soon, with bad luck it may take a year hmm

How do you feel using 2x12s instead of plugging two heads into a 4x12? I've considered getting 2 heads with two 2x12s, this way I could just bring a head and a 2x12 to gigs if I don't feel like hauling it all around and it seems easier to carry. A loss of bass perhaps?

It sounds fantastic man, I know the feeling of getting uncreative when just noodling around, happens to the best!

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Thanks guys for your comments.
Yes indeed it is the same reason I've choosen for two 2x12 cabs.
I can even take one cab and use two heads on it. The cab with EV12Ls is a stereo one.
Its more practical for the transport and not that heavy.
Don't worry about loss in bass. I reduced the bass already on my amps
because there was too much of it..
About noodling, yes its an unpleasant thing for me. I think of making another clip
and jam over a backing track.

These two guys are really great!
Yeah I think I'm also goin to buy a 2550... and a Overtone big_smile roll
Alex, maybe you should think about buying a looper for noodling... wink

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Finally!  The long awaited clips! big_smile  I'm digging it Alex, the HRM definately warms the sound up!  While I liked your Budda and Ceriatone 2550 together for the old brighter Joe Bonamassa tone (ANDY, Blues Deluxe, Had to Cry Today), Joe's current tone is a lot smoother and warmer.  The HRM and 2550 nail his current tone IMO.  I know the camera is doing that rig no justice though because, despite the wonderful compliments on my videos, I don't really think it's close to how it sounds in person.  I'd say 60%-70% at the most.  What I dig about this particular mix is when you play lower notes the thicker (syrupy wink ) tone is more noticable but when you hit the higher notes the Marshall seems to jump out more.  I also love the "chirpy" softer high end that the HRM adds that IMO can only be had from a Dumble inspired amplifier.  Really tames the more aggressive highs of any Marshall amp.  Now I'm really wanting a 2555 for my HRM100...Can't wait until you add the Fuchs Verbrator and some chorus too big_smile .  One more thing Alex, perhaps you could check out an amp selector that has ground lifts on it so you can make your rig absolutely silent.  The hum is not overwhelming, but it's a simple thing that makes a big difference IMO.  Besides, it beats the heck out of having to use the standby switches so much!  Some suggestions: Radial Bigshot ABY, VoodooLab Amp Selector (overkill really, but it's sick!!), and I think Lehle makes one too.  Sounds KILLER man, congrats!

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Thanks bro! So the mission goes the right direction.
I agree, the amps supply different things and complement eachother very well.
You cannot go wrong by buying a 2555. I'm 100% convinced now by Ceriatone amps.

The hum noise that you hear is caused by the (cheapo) power supply unit and the strange cable wiring of the building.
I use a Lehle P-split for splitting the signal to both amps.
http://www.lehle.com/products/frameset_ … nk=P-Split
It has galvanic separated outputs. Also a ground lift switch and a phase converter. In fact a good splitter.
At home the rig is quiet as a mouse. But I agree, its unpracticable to use the Standby all the time.
Either an amp selector or a Lehle 1@3 would be great.
But of course I also have to "neaten up" the pedalboard once I finished the configuration.
Yes there will be some pedals replaced. A proper power supply is the first thing!
I find the holy grail somewhat weak. The reverb is a bit to subtile.
And if you turn the level knob more than 12 o'clock then the signal gets quieter and messy.
The Fuchs verbrator is not available at the time here. Hard get hold of a unit really. But i will asap.
I have a great chorus ped called Retro-sonic chorus. It is very close reproduction of the Boss CE-1.
It also has a great vibrato effect on board. It gets included very soon.
Always something to tweak... wink

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

FANTASTIC BRO big_smile

AT Last I get to hear the jubilee overtone HRM combination and I am not dissapointed I sounds exactly how I imagined it would and is a killer sound, the Overtone is DEFINATELY a special amplifier with such a unique sound and the cleans sound phenomenal In fact the bit at the end where you change to clean channel is my favorite reminisant of Joes Carol ann. very articulate and rich with harmonics that blend very well with both amps.
Yes there is a lot lost in quality with the camera mic all the bottom end gets lost but we make allowances for this.
some  observations   I thought you would have put the delay in the 2550 effects loop or am I mistaken, IMO some very nice vibrato which reminds me of Brian May style cool cool all in you must be pretty pleased with this rig and there must be some place for the Budda although I think it would balance precariously on top of the ceriatones big_smile well  now I must retreat to my darkend room where I build frantically my HRM

"Everybody's entitled to my opinion. wink

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Thanks Derek. Yes you are right. The HRM sounds absolutely top notch and I can't tell
you what I would expect more of the dumble world even without having played another dumble clone.
You will be very pleased with yours i'm sure. Yes the clean channel is something very special too.
I like it with some "sand" in the sound. Blends nice with the 2550.

I could feed the DD-3 into the fx loop of the 2550 too. But I think Joe has the delay in his Jub
because has 3 further variable amps. So he has the delay with each of them.
I just have two amps that are always on. So I can have all the modulation peds in the loop
of the HRM.
You have a good ear. Noone can hide his influences.. smile In fact because of Brian May I started to play guitar in 1990.
Queen is still one of my favorite groups and I have all records of them.

Well, the pic looks like a good start. Keep us updated about the progress.

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Cool set up man.  Sounds good.  Curious, is the Ceriatone's wired out of phase like most dumbles/dumble clones too?

Ben

PS - Listen if Eva gets an invite, I'm ganna need one too... It just wouldn't be fair to give all that fun to one person lol big_smile .

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Thanks Ben. I think your clip inspired many of us here for a multi-amp rig.
I'm not certain if the HRM is wired out of phase. How can I find it out?
I connect both amps with Lehle P-Split. And it has a phase switch button to convert phase between the two amps.
If the knob is down then the two amps sound tight like one amp. If not pressed, it sounds like
a weird stereo effect. This may be out of phase....

PS- Ben you're more than welcome too. If its no big detour for you then come around.
I really mean that. cool

HAHAHA I wish I could come over there.  Hopefully one of these days while I'm still young I'll be able to make the trip over the pond.  Likewise too you man, If you're in NY drop me a line.

Too see if its out of phase when you play it threre will be less bass then if the speakers were in phase.  All it is is swapping the leads on the speakers (+ to - and - to +).  Experiment, you can't hurt the speakers.  I don't have any experience with the Lehle so I can't say if thats the answer.  It could very well be and you can set it that way instead of swapping the phase on the speakers.

Ben

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

I will try that with the speakers the next days.
There is another G12H30 on the way to replace the Celstion Gold.
In this move I will test if its out of phase. You know, the backplate of my cab
is fixed with 1000 screws....lol
Right now it doesn't sound out of phase and has a good bass so far.
But I will try anyway.

Funnily I swapped the Celestion Gold to a Lehle Little Dual.
http://www.lehle.com/products/frameset_ … LittleDual
Its a great unit for two amps and small sized. Easy switch either between the amps
or run them dual.

Nice with the Lehle Little Dual.  That's perfect for what you are doing.  I might need to get one for my little board too!

Re: Ceriatone Rig videoclip

Wow my friend! That set up is smoking. Incredible tone! Hey, and don't worry I also never know what to play when demoing something, I always try to make up my mind beforehand, but in the end I just noodle something else. Your demo seems spontaneous and this gives us the best impression I guess. Nothing faked, no "only good sounding licks" picked here, just pure playing.

I was considering buying a Ceriatone, too but I was a little bit afraid of the long shipment and the logistics. I am familiar with export and import clearance due to my job, but the somehow I had a bad feeling. As this is your 2nd Ceriatone, well you prove me wrong here I guess.

Thanks for the demo.
