I agree Eric has one of the most original playing styles ever. He's Vai and Yngwie fast, uses regular old pentatonics, but sounds 100% original...go figure! I think Eric learned a lot of his speed from guys like Holdsworth, Beck, Morse, etc. He was a product of the '80's where to be noticed was to play fast. He just took what guys like Clapton and Hendrix were doing to a whole new level. Notewise, it's very similar but with a little different phrasing and a whole bunch of speed. He was definately the guy that broke me out of my "box patterns". He's definately the most life changing and style changing player I have ever listened to.
