Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Yeah - I've seen Jay Tamkin quite a few times and he is hot on the heels of Oli Brown - great guitarist - Jay is playing at the Half Moon, in Herne Hill, South London, this saturday, 16th May, supported by the Ramon Goose Band, so it should be a great night - details at www.feenstra.co.uk

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Oops, I forgot to mention why I posted this today, Jay and his band were featured on Paul Jones's show last night.  The song was I Remember When and was second song on the night (three songs before Joe).

You can hear the show here:

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Thanks Duncan for posting about Jay. I thought I had posted about him here before but couldn't find it so I guess I didn't. Eldo introduced me to them....thanks Eldo smile

I agree, the Jay Tamkin Band are one of the most exciting new bands on the circuit. Jay is a hugely talented multi instrumentalist, singer, writer and very likeable young man with a great sense of fun.

I was thrilled to hear Paul Jones play I Remember When on monday. Especially after Jay had been promised that he would get a play two weeks ago and it never materialised.

I must mention Nick Ramos Pinto on drums and Pete Searle on bass. Lovely fellas and a great rhythm section.

The band are working very hard to get themselves known and that means a lot of travelling up and down the country and sometimes playing to only a handful of people, as was the case at the Albert a few weeks ago. But even then they gave their all and had fun doing so.

Here's my vid of I Remember When from the Albert

And Troubles which is also on the cd Sorted

So, if you get a chance go along and support them smile

Tripsy, it's hardly surprising that there were not able to fill the Albert Hall, only guys like Joe can fill that! lol

Sorry this is a shameless bump to the post, remember The Riga Club, Southend tonight and tomorrow CD Launch ’SORTED’ Zoom @ The Moon SE24! smile

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Yeah - cheap, but funny, Greenose!!! I was at the gig on 16th May at the Half Moon, Herne Hill, South London and Jay was on fire as usual, not literally, Greenose!!! Jay's fluidity on the fretboard is amazing, so check him out if you get the chance. Jay was supported by the equally excellent Ramon Goose Band. Ramon is a blues player of the Robben Ford school, technically brilliant. Ramon's band will be playing the Beaverwood Club in Chislehurst, South London borders, in June, details at  www.feenstra.co.uk and a new album is scheduled for autumn release.

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Hey sounds good, nice to hear about the jam with Chantel too, I'd have loved to have seen that.

What I have not mentioned publically until now is that I will be reviewing Jay's concert for Blues Matters and doing an interview for the same magazine! I can't wait smile

Re: Jay Tamkin Band

Yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing and meeting the Jay Tamkin Band, and thoroughly enjoyed their set and speaking to them.  Both the band and I were a long way from our respective homes in the setting of Cockermouth. It was worth the distance to see them though.

I had the fortune to have a long conversation with Jay before the band kicked off, and he is a very pleasant guy, intelligent, self deprecating and very knowledgeable when it comes to music. Hopefully this will form the basis of an interview shortly and what he had to say was very interesting.

Even better was watching Jay and the band playing. His guitar playing was superb and certainly as good as any other players of his age, but age is less important that talent and Jay has so much of it. The band was tight, Jay's vocals were great, while Jay alternated between guitar and keyboards at times, it worked really well. His songs are great too, with great hooks and melodies. While there were around four songs played from the album "Sorted", Jay showed he is continuing to develop great tunes incorporating several into the setlist. The Freddie King song Same Old Blues was played, before a audience member requested Hey Joe based on a viewing on youtube, and it was a great new slant on an old song as was the closer Talk To Your  Daughter. The crowd was not huge, but they were appreciative and the promoter too was impressed.

Get to see this band when you can. They are great! smile

Will try to add some photos later...
