Re: Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival

Just looked at the lineup and Eric Burdon is no longer playing.  Was looking forward to seeing a legend of rock and roll.

Yeah, apparently Eric Burdon hurt his back pretty bad.  I'm on the fest's email list, and I got the following email the other day:

regrets to announce the cancellation of one of its performers on Sunday May 17th.

Unfortunately, Eric Burdon and the Animals have had to cancel their scheduled performance. Earlier this week Eric Burdon suffered a fall in his home and according to his management sustained a severe back injury. We extend Eric our hopes and wishes for a speedy recovery.

If at all possible, we will fill the spot with another national act. Considering there are only six weeks left until the festival, we may not be able to book an act of the same caliber as Eric Burdon and the Animals. If another act cannot be booked, we will extend the set times of the other performers on that day.

The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival will still present a high quality line-up on Sunday culminating with exciting performances by Shemekia Copeland and Jonny Lang.

We will post updates as soon as available on our website www.bayblues.org and on our Facebook page.

That was followed up two days later by another email:

The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival is pleased to announce the addition of Blood Sweat & Tears to the Sunday May 17th lineup.
Blood Sweat and Tears has agreed to fill the slot in the lineup vacated by Eric Burdon and The Animals. Eric Burdon had to cancel due to a severe back injury.

Blood Sweat and Tears began in Greenwich Village in New York in 1968. Their accomplishments include 10 Grammy nominations and 3 Grammy Awards. They have toured continuously for the last 42 years. They were also one of the Sunday bands at Woodstock (THE Woodstock).

Joining Blood Sweat and Tears on Sunday are Jonny Lang, Shemekia Copeland, The Nighthawks, Hubert Sumlin, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, Zac Harmon and Albert Cummings. Saturday's lineup includes Los Lonely Boys, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, The Lonnie Brooks Band, Ana Popovic, Davey Knowles and Back Door Slam, Sugar Blue and The Chesapeake Ladies of Blues featuring Deanna Bogart, Melanie Mason, Patty Reese and Nadine Rae.

All net proceeds from The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival will benefit Special Olympics of Maryland, Camp Face (John Hopkins Cleft and Cranial Facial Children's Center) and We Care and Friends of Annapolis.

Re: Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival

I did receive an extra parking pass if anyone would like it.  Worse case scenario is bus in on Saturday and I can meet you and give you a pass for Sunday.  Only Bonamassa shirts apply:lol:

Re: Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival

Wish you had been there Jane. I think Sat. line-up was the strongest. Sunday was odd. BS&T, Lydia Pense...should have been earlier in the day. Zac Harmon and Albert Cummings should have been later..MHO

The new drummer for BDS was with them in Annapolis, working as a tech I think, but I knew I'd met him before. The bass player smiles and is animated! I'm sorry I don't remember their names. Their show was great..lots of new fans, sold out of CDs! Evan said they may add a keyboard player..I have mixed feelings about that and the new CD......we'll see....BUT, I'm happy to report Davy was playing a beautiful, gold Les Paul!!!! Gibson gave it to him...smiles from me!!!

Ana was hot as always. Her bass player was a favorite on the Blues Cruise. I like her guitar playing lots...not as fond of her vocals. (sorry Bob)

Albert Cummings played first on Sunday. He torched it. He played very hard...I think he made his point! LOL   Bob and I got to hang out with Albert, Aaron and Dan before they headed back to Mass. Such great guys. He has fired Piedmont and will be with a new agent by the fall. These tough financial times are hurting touring musicians, as we all know. Albert's working in the family construction business to fill the gaps. Andre, I'm sending you info from Albert. He needs to get to Europe!!!!

Jonny Lang...He now has a second guitar player, horns and keyboard. That means more long jams, less structure, and a sound that may be called "too big". Again, just my opinion. I miss the old Jonny, guitar and great vocals, but I think that's history.

All in all a very good festival. Whether it happens again is still in question. Fingers crossed!

Woofy, Tiedie Vik...sorry I didn't get to visit with you more...so much music, so little time....  Cathy

Re: Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival

My first venture to the festival.  Made a big mistake by not wearing sun screen.  I was fried and chickened out on the next day.  Everyone was great but I could have done without Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.  Not the blues even when the lead singer said "It's a blues festival we're gonna do some blues".  Shout out to CarljMD who essentially got my Sunday festival going with some great Joe boots that were fantastic.  Wore a Joe shirt and probably had 10 people come up and tell me that he blows away everyone on today.  Anyway had fun but remember the sunscreen people.

Re: Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival

Great review.Wish i could have been there.I'm a big fan of Albert Cummings.I know that some artist have felt the financial pinch lately but i'm sure Albert is doing okay.I don't think he works in the family business so much to fill in the gaps.He is the Family business. He's actually a milllionaire who owns a Home Building business in western mass.He loves to play the Blues and is good at it.He's also a great guy.You can read his story at Cnnmoney.com/albertcummings

Sadly times are tough for everybody. His dad is the one who still owns the company, but Albert will always have that as a fall back. He doesn't want to build houses...he wants to play music. He is a truly sweet guy. Another one of those that remembers your name after meeting once. I have high hopes for Europe. He would do well there.    Cathy
