Mine was a little different guys…
Started traveling at 09:00 (9:00 AM) London time. 7 ½ hour flight aboard an Airbus over the Big Pond to Toronto; three movies watched….I just can’t sleep on a plane! Gained 5 hours with that trip. Then 2 plus hours layover in Toronto. Drinks with Patty and Rhonda at a place called the Molson Pub. As I recall two bloody marys for Patty, one bloody mary and one white Russian for Rhonda and for me, two rather large glasses of Molson on tap, ice cold with additional ice to keep it cold. 1 hour flight from Toronto to Chicago O’Hare aboard a regional puddle jumper jet. Gained another hour with that flight. 1 hour wait for a regional bus (that I had just missed) to take me from O’Hare to the bus company’s Milwaukee park ‘n ride. A 1 ½ hour ride to Milwaukee. And a 45 minute drive home that I completed in about 25 minutes. Hey, when you’re as jet lagged as I was, all I wanted to do was get home.
Upon entering my home at now 22:30 (10:30 PM)/04:30 AM London time, I am greeted to silence. The children are watching a movie and only my son Ben’s head peeks up over the couch and says, “Oh , hi Dad.” And then it’s back to the movie. Goldie, our yellow Labrador, comes out of a sound sleep with a bone in her mouth wiggling her tail frantically…..well, at least someone is glad I’m home. Go upstairs to find Dawn fully dressed and out asleep in bed. I had indicated to her that if I got home early enough, maybe we could go out and get something to eat and drink at a local establishment. I lean in, tap her on the shoulder and ask if that’s why she’s still dressed. I realize then, she’s in no mood to go anywhere. Take my clothes off, put my PJ’s on, and as my head hits the pillow, dreams of Paris, London, Joe’s RAH show, Segway riding and great friends fill my mind as I drift off to sleep……
Welcome home.
Roy
P.S. Did they really miss me? Oh well, it still was good to be home!
