Topic: MLB 2009

This is a great year for Baseball in many ways. For me it feels good to sit down in front of the T.V. on a hot summer day and watch a good game of Baseball. It is so much still the American Pastime over football (at least in my eyes).

My team is the Cardinals. They are out ahead in the Central now and even though Carpenter is out again roll I have hope of a good year. I hope I can make the Cards/ Rockies series in Denver this year... those are the only Cardinal games I ever get to go to sad

I'm excited for this year, but I feel like even though it is still superior to Football in many ways (although I still love football) the MLB is losing a fan base. With Yankee Stadium gone and the whole steroid thing roll I think people have lost hope in the game's honest values. I hope that's not true for any of you. Be proud to wear those Baseball jerseys... whichever team you root for... unless it's the Cubs lol

September (or June lol )

Anyway... I hope you all have a great Baseball-filled year.

Re: MLB 2009

The grand slam that Albert Pujols hit off Kerry Wood yesterday was well over 440 feet....they need to recalibrate the dimensions at Busch....reminisent of the tape measure blast off Brad Lidge a few years back in the playoffs....I have to agree with a baseball analyst, Albert is the greatest right handed hitter in the last 25 years....take Barry Bonds out of the equation and who knows how many MVPs Albert would have by now....I'm a Yankee fan, and to see the ball flying out of that new ballpark make me smile....yeah I know what the Red Sox did to my boys the last 2 nights, but that's why it's the greatset game of all time big_smile

Shred,
I don't know if you ever read any of the books by former ump Ron Luciano, but they are very entertaining.
He talks about the first time he was behind the plate when Nolan Ryan was pitching and he made this call:
"Ball One!...sounded low".

"Rock ON & Keep the Faith"

Re: MLB 2009

I've heard about that line from the book, pretty funny....there are so many pitchers now that throw near 100 MPH now it's almost common place....Nolie was a freak of nature though, still throwing smoke in his 40s, and his last arm injury was no career ender like many had said, he just decide to hang em up....I still believe he's the most intimidating pitcher ever....I'll share a quick story with you....in 1981 Deb and I flew with our 2 children to Columbia, South Carolina where my dad was born raised and retired....the second day we're there, pops turns on the TV to find some sports to keep me entertained as we were waiting for aunts and uncles I hadnt seen in years show up for a BBQ....turns out the baseball game of the week was getting ready to start, Ryan was pitching for the Astros against the Dodgers....the innings are flying by and Nolie is mowing them down with that fastball and a 91 MPH curve ball that dropped off the table and had guys bucking their knees in fear...the ninth inning comes around and he comes out to pitch, everyone standing and cheering him on, he's throwing a no-hitter...there's one out and my dad comes in the room and turns the TV off!!!....I explained to him as quickly as possible I wanted that TV back on, were witnessing history....I'll quote him these words he said, they are forever in my head...." I dont care who this guy is or what he's doing, we got family here, get out here NOW!...you got family to see"....I cant tell you how pissed I was....I'm outside talking to a cousin, turns out he's a huge basenall fan like myself....he mentions Ryan was throwing the no no when he left his house an hour ago...I told him what transpired with my dad...he just hook his ahead in disbelief....my cousin goes in the house and comes back out to tell me that Ryan threw the no-hitter....I've said this many times and meen it, damn glad that SOB wasnt around to raise me growing up, the only entertainment he enjoyed was fishing and country music....

Re: MLB 2009

I LOVE my PHILLIES!!!  Shred, you mentioned Brad Lidge somewhere, so many fans made posters for him at the World Series Parade, Philadelphia loves Brad!  And we are lovin' our new guy, Raul Ibanez!  (Ibanez guitar should entertain a marketing idea here, Ibanez is settling in GREAT with us, what a player!) The other night, the Phillies  2 grand slams to win!!!  I feel sorry for the Florida teams, opening day for the Marlins and the stands were empty, lack of Tampa Ray fans brought down the World Series viewing audience.  I guess its all the transplanted people who moved to Florida from somewhere else...
