Thanks for the update,,hope to be there.

Re: Greensboro, NC March 25, 2009

Tickets sales are going slow, so if you are nearby or would a nice road trip, come on to Greensboro.

This will be the first time that Joe has played in Greensboro, to my knowledge, so really need a good turn out to support Joe.  Looks like a really cool theatre.

Re: Greensboro, NC March 25, 2009

Show last night was excellent.  Joe, Carmine, Rick and Bogie were well rested and cranked it up.  The venue had a broadway type of production going in between Joe's show so there was some additional stage for Joe to work with.  It was like a H design with Joe being able to go wireless!  He was really working the crowd last night.

The setlist:

Ballad of John Henry
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
Mountain Time
Another Kind of Love
Sloe Gin
Great Flood
Lonesome Road Blues
Happier Times
Your Funeral My Trial
Blues Deluxe
Woke Up Dreaming
Just Got Paid
**** Encore ****
Ball Peen Hammer
Story of a Quarry Man
Asking Around For You

The show was a little over two hours.  Our seats were in the pit, part of the H.  There were 7 seats in our side and the stage went around three sides of us.  Really a different perspective, got some great pictures.  Got to see Roy Britt, Jon Cox and Van Blalock and Rich great photographer.  Joe was looking great, he told me before the show he was down to 162 pounds.  Loose much more weight Joe, you are going to have to run around in the shower just to get wet!  Carmine was doing great, checking out some cool new bass that night.  They are all really looking forward to the RAH, going to be very memorable.  Joe and I talked about the 2005 London tour and have far they have come since then.

All the songs were great, but the ones that stood out, was So Many Roads, stellar solo.  Happier times is a real special song, like the opening to Blues Deluxe and Woke Up, nice to see a little change.  Just Got Paid, just got better with his flying V.  At the end of Just Got Paid, Joe walked up or ran up a ramp behind Bogie and was like 20 feet above the stage, wailing!  That was pretty cool.  The encore songs were great, and the crowd behaved pretty good during Asking Around.  Over 1100 in attendance, absolutely fantastic turn out for the first time playing in Greensboro and on a Wednesday night.

Thanks David! Sounds fantastic as usual.

Joe being wireless now gives him much more room to roam and play to the crowd. I think it adds a lot the show.

It's not so long ago that I was asking why didn't Joe go wireless - bigger stages is the answer. Not needed previously for the smaller venues. Must be great to see the young dog let off the leash!!!

Have recent gigs seen an improvement in programmed stage lighting / back lighting / follow spots etc. I do hope so!

Not long now!!!!! That night in London is just going to fly by - but what a memory it will be!

Re: Greensboro, NC March 25, 2009

Joe has yet to add his own lighting and backdrops. If the venue has capabilities to do some lighting production they certainly don't ask them not to use it.

Some day I hope they can bring their own or require it to be made available at each venue. That is the next step in evolving the show production.

Ultimatley traveling with your own sound and lights is the best way to assure consitancy just expensive to do.

We are not far from putting this show in a 48 foot trailer. We are working on details now.

Re: Greensboro, NC March 25, 2009

It was a great show and nice venue.  I wish the house sound guys would have brought Joe's vocals up in the mix.  Definitely a plus when you have your own equipment and crew.  Joe's voice I can imagaine could be hard to dial in because sometimes it's very breathy and he uses a lot of dynamics.

I wonder if the wireless was more out of necessity that opportunity.  Their gear was very much front stage because of the sets and stuff from what ever production was there and the the H as you mentioned allowed him to get out in front, so his cord would have been knocking people in the head.  But most tone junkies seem to prefer or have gone back to cords vs the wireless.   When I saw eVh this last time he had gone back to cords as did George Lynch, Buddy Guy, the Edge, these are just people I've seen recently.

Wow, what a show!!    Fantastic turnout for the 1st time visiting Greensboro, I sure hope not the last (1100 fan turnout!) big_smile
(BTW  did anyone there see ERSKINE BOWLES ?  he was Bill Clinton's wingman, and now is Chancellor of the UNC university system!) wink

Great mix of old and new, and I really like the way he was able to roam around wireless...I was on 2nd row on the aisle and got some decent photo shots
(thanks to J&R adventures for the photo pass!)

His vocal range was amazing, and his tone and passion is unmatched.....I was a little unsure about the vocal sound on the 1st song, but that was quickly corrected and the show was basically flawless...

this man is an icon and deserves all accolades...

saw him for the 1st time last year in Raleigh NC and was floored....this performance was even better!!  hopefully many more Greensboro visits in the future!

Yep, that's the way to go. Bigger venues, more people, bigger show, better lighting and presentation, increased cost, realistic ticket prices - we'll still be there! It HAS to happen. It will upset the diehards that they can no longer have Joe to themselves, but hey, he's worth every penny!
