Topic: Hi from UK

I just wanted to say thanks to Joe for coming over and playing at the Cornbury Festival in Oxfordshire, UK. He was the only reason we went to the festival, after realising how good he was from hearing him (a lot!) on Planet Rock. We weren't disappointed, he was excellent and just so so talented.

I shall certainly be buying his CD and look forward to seeing him again on his next UK tour, though we're hoping there may be additions to his currently listed dates as there's nothing near us at all!

Re: Hi from UK

Hi Jan, welcome to Joe's forum. You'll get a warm welcome here. Lots of Bonabuddies meet up at gigs and some travel HUGE distances to see Joe and the band - They are a fresh look at the Blues and Joes shows are evolving all the time. Joe was saying last night in Liverpool that his slot at Cornbury was the only one when it wasn't raining - how good is that? Hope you had a good day despite the weather.

You don't say where you're from - you should note the area just in case there are other forum members in your area you could hook up with to get to gigs. Just don't hook up with Michael Lynch, it'll cost you a fortune - he's seen Joe over 50 times, in the UK, Europe and the States on "road trips", meeting up with forum buddies all over the world!

Your on a trip of a,lifetime with Joe - Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes Joe was right, his was the only slot that didn't involve those pesky umbrellas:-) As it happens, as I said, we only went to see him anyway, but to have the sun shining at the same time was a bonus! We left after his set and got to the car just before the heavens opened once again.

I'm in East Anglia which unfortunately usually means we have to go to London for gigs which is a pain in the arse, to be honest. Originally I'm from the North West so was used to much more choice for gigs, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, etc. loads of places possible because of the motorway network, which is something that 'sleepy' Suffolk doesn't have!

Re: Hi from UK

Hi Jan and welcome to all things Joe. Don't worry about shows near you. Historically the band spends a great deal of time in Europe. They'll be closer..I just can't say when. Plan on a trip to London late in '09 for the show at the RAH!! Until then, start your collection. You will want all the CD's and the DVD's. That'll keep you busy!    Cathy

Hi Jan,

Welcome to the forum and to the growing throng of Joe fans!! We became fans after hearing him on Radio 2 back in February and seeing him at Crewe.

Glad you enjoyed Joe at Cornbury, he was awesome in Liverpool last night too. Hope you can get to see him in November... we live quite near Manchester and do have a spare room!

If I'm alive when I'm 99 I'm still gonna be saying, "Remember 4th May 2009 when we saw Joe at the RAH... what a night that was!"

Re: Hi from UK

Hi Jan

Glad you enjoyed Cornbury. How long did Joe get to play for? Did he play many songs?

Living in East Anglia, hopefully you've heard of Oli Brown, who is a fine teenage blues guitarist from Norfolk. If not, you shoulg check him out while you're waiting for Joe to come back to these Isles.

Enjoy the forum! smile

Re: Hi from UK

Hi I actually Don from Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire, England
Saw Joe at Shepherds Bush very crowded and difficult to see, but saw him at Cornbury excellent.    Always need more.     Some criticise Joe as not really blues but we can all love the old blues style and still love this new blues raunchy style which Joe has and terrific guitar playing.   So many gigs the sound is too loud and confused and often you cannot hear the guitar playing - is the sound engineers, but Joe's have been excellent.
Look out for Ten Years After with Joe Gooch lead guitar - they are playing mainly in America and the continent - UK audiences have not been supportive.
Come back soon Joe.

Big Warm Welcome!!!

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Re: Hi from UK

Hi Jan and welcome to the family. I live in West Yorkshire now but grew up on the Wirral. Glad you enjoyed Cornbury and hope you don't have to wait too long for another show. Although Geoff's right people do travel huge distances to see Joe. Eva came from Germany, Matt came from Ireland, Lynn and Laurence drove up from Poole all to see Joe in Liverpool on Monday. I know it's not always practicable though.
Enjoy yourself here, it's a great place to be.

Duncan's right about The Oli Brown Band, look out for them they're really good.
