Topic: Joe's tribute to Rory G

for those of you that are familiar with Phish you know that they used to play a complete album every Halloween. One year they palyed the White Album and many other classic albums. I always thought that was so cool. I would love to see Joe do something like this. If it was up to me I would have him perform Rory Gallagher's Irish Tour from start to finish. I always thought Rory played with more passion then anyone. 7 years ago when I heard JB for the first time he immediatly reminded me of Rory. Not his guitar playing but his passion to make great music with tons of feeling. I love Joe's version of Cradle Rock, I can listen to it all day. I would love to see Joe do a tribute show to him. It would be AMAZING to say the least. Like Joe, there are so many people that have never heard of Rory and it is a shame. He should be a household name like Clapton. Rory refused to sell out, he never like to release singles he believed in making solid albums all Killer no filler. Joe does the same. Both of these guys have a rabid fan base because they make great music and their fans spread the word, not the lame radio stations that call (Wheel in the Sky) a deep cut. Don't get me wrong it is a great song but hardly a deep cut. Back to Joe. Can you imagine Joe doing A million Miles Away into Walk on Hot Coals, Tattoo'd lady and too much Alcohol. Just a dream of mine.

When I read the thread title I got sooo excited! I'll add that an album of tributes to all Joe's "heroes" would be cool..Add some Danny Gatton, Roy Buchannan (sp? dumb today), etc. But, Rory is special and much loved here!!!!                Cathy

Phish....their music is good but they have a stigma - and a cult-like following I don't want to be associated with.  good music though.

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

First of all, this thread was not about Phish, It is all about two of the greatest artist/guitar players of all time Rory Gallagher and Joe B. I was just using Phish as an example of a band that performs complete albums in their shows.  second-your comment is exactly what I always thought was wrong with the music industry, the record companies and radio stations are always trying to categorize the different groups, I can care less about any Stigmas or whatever I only care about good music, If Barry Manilow has a song that makes me feel good then so be it even though I know my friends will give me sh@*. Like Miles Davis said "there is only 2 kinds of music good and bad". As far as a cult like following, some may accuse all of us as being part of the Joe Bonamassa cult which is fine with me. I hope Joe someday has a mass Cult like following like Phish and the Dead have achieved. With all that being said I do understand what you are saying because I used to go to Phish shows and many of the fans were very irritating begging for free concert tickets. There is nothing worse then middle class college kids begging for a ticket while there are so many starving people in this world.  PEACE.

As they used to call him, " the Irish Clapton."

I'd kind of like to hear Joe do a tribute to Foghat. He can sing the Lonesome Dave parts and play the Rod Price slide parts.

I second that! Always loved Foghat...their Rock and Roll Outlaw album is still one of my all time favorites.

That doesn't mean that I don't agree with the idea of a Rory tribute. I saw Rory twice and he was always one of those "can't miss" shows.

Rory was one of a kind, as is Joe. Too bad he didn't live to hear Joe doing "Cradle Rock", he would've loved it. Hard to believe he's been gone 12 years already.

Not to get off topic but I would strongly recommend the recently released 3 DVD set of Rory's performances on WDR's Rockpalast. Almost 10 hours of prime Rory from 1976-1990.

Would be great to hear Joe do "Bullfrog Blues".

Rory's drummer, Brendan O'Neill, is a customer of ours although we don't sell drums. His two daughters play guitar and bass though. I just wanted to say what a great guy Brendan is, very polite and humble, given that he played with one of the guitar Gods of our generation. His family are really nice too. He can be seen regularly with Gerry McAvoy in the fantastic 9 Below Zero. Check 'em out!

Just ordered it off Amazon.com Keith. Should make a great New Years present for the family. Also didn't hurt to see all 6 reviews with a 5 star rating. Apparently it's as good as you said. Man, and I told the wife we had better watch our spending in 2008. Hey wait a minute, it's not 2008 yet!

Looking forward to receiving this box set.

Roy

You're going to love it Roy. They even have some of them exactly as they aired on German TV, with the hosts speaking a mixture of German and broken English, looking decidedly by today's, and perhaps even then, very "unrock". Amazing to think this was at that time broadcast all over Europe and parts of Africa. Try getting something like Rory broadcast live across the U.S., and it just ain't ever going to happen .
