I always thought Rory Gallagher's vocals were not up to snuff or just not "something" enough on Cradle Rock. While Rogers vocals were great on Seagull, the simple (though enchanting) guitar left me disappointed compared to the balance of the Bad Co. album. Joe's Cradle Rock has better vocalization & the slide playing (especially on A New Day Yesterday Live) takes it to a very happy place for me...On Seagull, the vocals of Joe are excellent, though I cannot say surpassing Paul Rodgers, I also cannot say they are not any poorer, perhaps just not having the depth in the overtones. But otherwise, all things considered, Joe's version totally blows the the poor old 'Gull out of the sky. I said it in my first review, it is what the Bad Co. version SHOULD have been, or from where's Joe's success with his version stands now, COULD have been.
