Topic: Unofficial Joe Bonamassa Ernie Ball Music Man Reflex

I can't take credit for this since Coach305 mentioned it in General Topics, but has anyone else seen the Music Man Reflex that bears an awfully similar resemblance to Joe's Goldtop? Its got binding and a blacked out back.

I think it's kinda cool. Anyone else with thoughts on it?

Wow....I'm not seeing the resemblance to a JBLP Goldtop at all. Yeah it comes in gold and has a black back but that's about it.

To me it looks more like a EVH Wolfgang.

Re: Unofficial Joe Bonamassa Ernie Ball Music Man Reflex

I see the similarity in the picture showing the black back..but otherwise I'm not a fan of this particular guitar based on its looks. Could be a cool piece though, never played an Ernie Ball guitar before.

Great guitars those! Joe usually played the Steve Morse model though, the Y2K.

Re: Unofficial Joe Bonamassa Ernie Ball Music Man Reflex

The Reflex is EBMM's production version of the 25th Anniversary model, which they no longer produce.  It has the same electronics, including the series/parallel switch, the same body, the same neck.  Only the finishes are different.  When I mentioned that I thought of the goldtop/black back version as an "unofficial" Joe B. signature model, it was because of the association Joe has with that color scheme on his signature Gibson and Epiphone models.  Didn't mean to suggest that the Reflex bears much resemblance to them other than that, though...

I fell in love with the 25th Anniversary model the first time I saw the RAH video, and spent more than a year tracking one down (most of the ones I could find had the quilted top, not the same as Joe's).  I'm strictly an amateur/hobbyist player, but I can tell you that the build quality on this guitar is fantastic, the neck is a dream to play on, and the electronics allow for an extremely wide variety of tones.  When I had just about given up on finding one like Joe's, the goldtop Reflex was going to be my choice.  Luckily for me, I finally found a gorgeous flametop 25th Anniversary (see my avatar), but I'm sure the Reflexes will play and sound just as awesome.  Definitely worth checking out if you're in the market for something other than a Lester for your humbucking needs...   wink

No neutral I don't see any resemblance. I do like the EBMM guitars a lot though!
If I had to get a new strat, I'd go for an Albert Lee first, or try for a vintage one.

Re: Unofficial Joe Bonamassa Ernie Ball Music Man Reflex

Not even sure JB plays/owns a reflex.  He does like, plays, and owns some Steve Morse models, so maybe some day a variation of that with JB's accoutrements will appear.

Well, he almost certainly still has his 25th Anniversary model that he played at RAH and was still playing as recently as the early dates on his 2011 tour.  As noted earlier, a Reflex is just a 25th Anniversary with a more conventional finish on it.  And I'd be surprised if EBMM hasn't loaned him a Reflex to get some feedback...

Yeah, he's switched to the EBMM Steve Morse for now, but I'm hoping the 25th Anni isn't out of the rotation for good...
