Hi Patty,
I came across this before, I think the clip is quite good, especially how it progresses.  George Harrison would be impressed and pleased to hear the ukulele!  I heard Jake's recordings are good.

Re: Check out Ukulele Weeps

Hey Patty.  Absolutely love George Harrison and his beautiful music.  In my opinion, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is one of his finest songs.  Loved the clip and Jake does a really sweet rendition on his ukulele-and yes, I do believe George would have really enjoyed it too.  However, know one plays it better and with more depth of emotion and feeling than of course George.  Except.......when Eric Clapton has played it.  Don't know if you have ever seen the dvd, "The Concert For Bangladesh".  George played and sang this song with Eric Clapton, Leon Russell and Ringo.  It is mind blowing to see the four of them playing together on stage.  They were unbelievably AWESOME!!  On the dvd, "Concert for George" Eric Clapton played and sang this song with Jeff Lynne, Ringo, Paul McCartney and George's son Dhani.  And as Dhani so correctly said to Eric right after finishing the song, "Eric you are the man, thanks"!  Eric took that incredible song to a new higher level of musical perfection and they simply ROCKED it.  I know I am only dreaming here and Joe is a blues man, but I have often thought what it would be like to hear Joe playing and singing this song.  Wow, that would be amazing to hear and see!!!  So, for now I'll just continue to dream on on that....

Barbara:

Both Peter Frampton and Jeff Healey have done more than respectable versions of it as well.  Great song, great lead from EC, definitely a classic!

Keep on rockin' the blues...

Re: Check out Ukulele Weeps

Hi Barbara,
The Concert for Bangladesh is really extra special, absolutely love it!!!  It was remarkable that Eric got it together and even made it to the show... Funny you should bring up our main man Joe and a Beatle/George cover...as soon as I saw that April 15th date in Phoenix with Keb'Mo" I thought, "Taxman"!  Did you ever hear Stevie Ray's cover and Stevie was a bluesman?

I listen to Breakfast With The Beatles on Sunday mornings.  A couple of weeks ago the feature was all about George in celebration of his birthday.  I've read alot about the Beatles, but it was a different experience to hear George's voice and his words actually speaking about how Paul intimidated him and it was really Eric that gave him his confidence to embrace being a great guitarist. George and Eric shared the best bonds of friendships!

And right after James Brown passed away, I was listening to some coverage and the DJ played a B side of a 45 of "Something".  I had never heard it and it was the only place it was ever recorded and apparently George said it was his favorite Beatle song ever covered by anyone!

Re: Check out Ukulele Weeps

I played While My Guitar Gently Weeps for a recital piece at college last year. The Clapton solo in the original is one of my favorite solos of all time. Its super simple but it is so lyrical. Sounds like the guitar is crying!

I love Jeff Healey's version too. On his Montreux DVD Philip Sayce takes the first solo and Jeff takes the second...pure bliss!

I had a chance to see Jake the ukelele guy playing with Tommy Emmanuel but I didn't have the money. My guitar teacher went and taped it. I got to listen to them duetting together on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, some of the best guitar playing and ukelele playing I have ever heard, they are both masters!

Re: Check out Ukulele Weeps

Jess-I tried to post the clip of Prince's accompaniment on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", but it's been removed from youTube. He was most dramatic and so very awesome!  I hope you've seen the Concert for George!  It was "very George" how George came up with the title!  Such a great line when you think of a guitar crying. I've never seen the Jeff Healey/Philip Sayce take. Thanks for that info.

Hi Angela, Carl and Jess.  Thanks for all the info on other musicians who have played, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and have done it justice.  I will have to check them out especially the Jeff Healey/Philip Sayce version.  Angela and Jess glad you love the Concert for George too.  I never get tired of watching the dvd and every song of George's that they play truly Rocks!!!!

Re: Check out Ukulele Weeps

Hi Barbara,

One of my favorite bits of Concert For George is the Indian music section. I love Indian music and I thought Clapton did really well in that for a style hes probably not that familiar with.

Re: Check out Ukulele Weeps

For those interested-After the Bangladesh concert, George toured with Ravi Shankar.  I wasn't at the concert, but my hubby was.  Ravi wasn't as well received as the warm-up band to George.  Bangladesh was specifically for a cause, so I think people were more tolerant and respectful of the Indian music.  Many fans showed total disrespect to Ravi's music on George's tour. I like the way the sitar was blended into Beatle/George tunes.

I wonder if Derek Trucks is a Ravi Shankar fan?
